yeah this si really normal. he was jsut play fighting like all animals do.... ever noticed how dogs "play" with each other... they bite they chase the act like they are fighting but its a dogs way of playing. same goes for cats. hedoes this as a source of entertainment. there is a dangling arm right there and he went for it because he wanted to play. i know so many people with cats that do this. it is 100% normal so dont worry about it. if he starts to get really aggressive and scratch and bite like this all the time. maybe talk to your vet. i am positive there is nothing wrong here but if he starts to seriosuly hurt you or your son it has to stop, so ask your vet questions about why he maybe doing this and if it is still really just "playing"
best of luck!

I have been around cats my whole life, truly! I can understand the love you have for him, anyway back to the question! A lot of cats that I've lived with always do that especially when they were play fighting. I guess you would have to explain your cat's action more thoroughly. If your cat is anoyed and doesn't want to be bothered then he will more than likely bite, scratch, or hiss. If he shows his belly and is purring and you pet him he might grab your hand with his paws and chew on your fingers, but he is only playing! I have been told by vets to play with your cat only with a cat toy other wise your cat will think it's okay to bite your fingers and etc. But kids will be kids. Just make sure your cat has some space every once in a while, they are very independent creatures at times and some times like to be alone.

We have a 12 month old baby and our cat has suddenly got a nasty streak in him.The cat has started going for the Baby.
We thought it was going to be a problem but the baby just whacks the cat with a toy or whatevers to hand now everytime he comes near.
I hate the stupid thing but the missus loves him. It could be jelousey maybe, boredom, you might just smell like something that needs to be bitten!

how old is the cat?
is it neutered? if not get him neutered as it will lower agression
is it declawed? declawed cats frequently become biters in an effort to show they are not defenseless they bite sometimes for no reason
if he is commonly biting your son and the 2 suggestions above dont apply I would seriously wonder what your son is doing with the cat when you are not around...
mivered?? what is mivered?

Your cat lives out doors with other cats.. it can get diseases, that it could pass on by biting. is your cat vaccinated, PROPERLY, and up to date.
Take the cat to a vet, and get its bloods done.
Get the cat neutered.
By some frontline FROM YOUR VET, and make sure it has no fleas.
If the cat is upset by firewoeks and the like, you can but refillable things that plug into the wall, which will calm them down..

I dont want to say get rid of it but do you know how much danger you and your son are in? Cat bites can be toxic. Before you say"not my cat", remember that he uses his tongue to clean himself with.
I had to go to the hospital once because a customer's cat bit me and it got nasty very quickly.
If you truly want to keep the cat, try these two methods:
1....Get a spray bottle of water. Set it on squirt and use it every time he does something forbidden.
2....Put several pennies in a soda can tape the top shut. Every time he is bad, rattle it at him. If that still doesnt do it, you can throw it in his direction. Not hard, mind you, but throwing is quicker and we all know how fast cats are. Good luck

Cats always bite and scratch... sometimes playing , sometimes saying they have had enough... Or annoyed.
They are fickle, one minute all loving then wack stomp off.
A good tip is that if you dont move your hand or the claws dont drag... If you wip your hand away thats when you get hurt.
Plus sometimes they are play fighting affectionate... Kittens are the worst.
Cat wagging tail and maybe growl mieowing is usually a sign to move away slow
Generally your skin does not get torn

if this was completely out of character for your cat, then there must be a reason, cats with some sort of health problem are sometimes aggressive, but then again a new cat in the area can have an effect. how to find out what it is down to keeping a close eye on him or her.

Before I got my current kitten which I have had now for 2 weeks, I got a very very young black and white kitten from a farm. He was very unsettled, so i sat with him for hours on end. He wouldn't let anyone touch him, even if they tried to approach him he would hiss. Well one day I was sitting with him and all of a sudden he started hissing at me, and all I was doing was sitting in the room. The hissing was low at first, and then it gradually got louder and it was continuous. He was arching his back and just staring at me. this was when I thought something is not right here, so I went to get up and then that's when it happened. I know it sounds stupid, but this tiny kitten mauled me. He clung on to me with his claws and sunk them deep into my leg, he scrabbed and nipped me all over my arms and leg. He bit my finger that hard that it ripped it open and broke the skin, so I pulled up my finger immediately in pain then he started to claw my face and all I could think of was "My eyes my eyes!" so I started to scream and my bro came and got it off me with great difficulty. The next day we took him back up to the farm and left him there with the other kittens while the man that gave him to me was at work. I think he was viscious because he came from a farm with lack of human contact. Maybe your kitten is feeling scared or worried about something and is frightened of someone in the household.

sounds like my cat lol. no seriously back to the question, i really dont think this is play fighting at all. my cat started to get quite nasty, she has gone an attacted my two girls mainly the yonger one, which i can uderstand cos she tends to rub her fur backwars, know myself i would not like my hair being rubed back the wrong way how iratating. then she started getting quite nasty with me, one day i was dressing te beds and she was laying on my quilt normaly she will get off the minute i tell her, but this day she didnt and so i gently tryed to slide the quilt upwards ans she slid in and latched on to my arm with both her bottom claws and bit me quite badly, in fact not only did she claw me quite badly she also bit me very hard, mind you the claw mark was so bad ppl kept on going round asking me why i had felt the need to cut myself so bad.
i have also noticed that although she is about 5, she acts like a kitten at times running in from the garden so fast up the strairs on to my bed then jumping off my bed on to the spare bed off that on to my girls bed off that down thestairs off that running back into the garden and repeats this process about 5-10 times. humm that i never under stand.
also i fed my caon dry cat food and have noticd that if she showing off because she wants meat she wont eat her food for a coupple off days. then shestarts her cycle off atacking the girls or me, the other day she did this to my oldest daughter although it was funny to see t was not funny what she did, my daughter screamed so loudlythecat litterly jumped up in the air and flew down the stairs.
but what i do normaly is i pick her up smack her on her bum and then put her outside off the home, which did seem to stop her attacking any off us, until the other night when she attacked my aughter, but then i think where she screamd so loud the cat fingers crossed aint touched us no more.
