I was like wtf!!!! I know it's the BEST thing to do for our pets and our society. she told me that cats/dogs don't have a say about getting spayed/neutered and that she would NEVER do anything like that to "harm" her animals. I got into a very big argument with her over this situation. in my opinion, people just don't see the importance of this surgery. people in this world don't realize just how many unwanted cats/kit or dogs/pups are sitting in shelters awaiting for a loving home which will probably never come for them!!! I'm not mentioning about the breeders, only these stupid irresponsible pet owners who just don't want to have their cats/dogs spayed/neutered because either they think it's "cruel" or they're down right lazy and don't care!!! oh, and by the way, the lady I argued with, her cat was fixing to have a litter of kittens soon. so my question is: why would any pet owner believe this idiotic and uneducated statement that it's cruel to spay/neuter your pets?

I say that if you're not a breeder and you still don't spay/neuter your animals then you have absolutly no business owning the animals. oh, and one more thing: cats/dogs are not like humans!!! whoever says that is just full of B.S!!!!! sure, you might not want to get "fixed" but cats/dogs don't think like us about that. they just don't care if they're spayed/neutered. they couldn't care less if they don't have any babies.

all three of my animals are spayed/neutered. every pet I will ever own will be fixed!!! no matter who tells me differently. they live longer healthier lives too!!!!

I am on your side don't worry. It is more like being an animal abuser if you don't spay/neuter your pets. I can't believe she would say something like that. She is down right weird if you ask me. Almost every person I know has their pets spayed/neutered. And if it is so cruel why do vets recommend it so much? Unwanted animals are put in society every day because people don't want them but they didn't spay/neuter. People will kill animals. Dogs/Cats will end up in shelters looking for a nice home with a wonderful owner and yet they never get it and yet another sad life ends not satisfied. If you ask me people should definitely spay/neuter their pets. And definitely get mixed breeds from unwanted litters or from shelters. I think I have made my opinion clear.

Maybe you should tell her to get a life. Or maybe get a pet. And then neuter it. Some people just don't get it, do they? I have had a couple of nightmare experiences because I didn't have a cat spayed [and a dog neutered.] The dog went off with a pack of other dogs chasing a female in heat. Of course, we know that the female should have been spayed, but it was my responsibility to take care of my little Maltese. He disappeared for three weeks, and we were lucky to get him back. The pads were worn off his feet, and he was a nervous wreck for about a month.
My daughter received a Himalayan kitten for graduating to Middle School. At that time I couldn't afford to have her spayed, so I let it go. Well, she ended up pregnant, but the first kitten was breech, and she couldn't deliver it. So I took her to a rather heartless vet who told me that it would cost $200.00 for a Caesarean - hah. The only other alternative was to put her and her kittens down. Some choice. I told him to keep the cat, and sell the kittens, which would more than have paid for the delivery. Nope. I had, like, 5 minutes to decide. I had to have her put down. And the b****** still charged me $65.00, and broke my daughter's heart.
The reason I'm writing this is - print it off and show it to the stupid woman who thinks that spaying or neutering animals is cruel or abusive.
And good for you for being responsible.
I will never have another animal that I can't take proper care of, and my sweet companion, my Border Collie, was neutered the minute he was 'mature' enough.

I think Spay and Neutering is the best thing an owner can do for their animals. I have two dogs, male and female (from different litters, but they are still brother and sister). Before I was able to get them both fixed, he got her pregnant. The puppies had some problems and they died within a month. Our dogs are now fixed so it won't happen again.

Dogs are not human! The males do not care if the female is a close family member. Many people will agree that it could be abuse if you do not get them fixed.

I can understand what she thinks, and I'm sure it's unpleasant for the animals, but she must not realize that they get over it quickly. Besides, cats (or other animals, for that matter) don't need to have a litter to fill their lives. It may sound cruel or heartless, but they are much less developed, mentally, than people, and they can be happy in almost any case, whether they raise a litter or they don't, whether they're indoor or outdoor. Personally, I would never declaw cats - but not because it would hurt them - only because I keep outdoor cats, and they need their claws to climb trees and fend off other animals if they get into a fight.

Basically, her thoughts are a fair combination of being uneducated, as you said, in the matter and just having a different set of values.

This lady has no clue. You did the right and responsible thing by having your cats spayed and neutered.Besides all the unwanted cats in the world. there are many health and behavior issues that happen if you do not have them fixed.
Congrats to you for doing the right and responsible thing and for standing up to this ignorant women who does not have a clue.
Even responsible breeders do not let their Queens have alot of litters they retire them from breeding and have them spayed.

I definately don't agree with that! I have a dog who we got about 4 years ago. She was already neutered. I guess whatever the owner of a pet wants, you know? If I chose to get a pet that wasn't neutered, that is fine, but also choosing a pet that is neutered is fine to. There are horrible ways of abusing animals, but I honestly believe that spaying/neutering your pet is not one of them.

It's cruel to allow them to come on heat all the time and have kittens, research has proven that.
Your cat will be happier, healthier and more content. Free from pyometra (which means they have to be desexed anyway and it's far more dangerous when they have pyo) ovarian cysts (desexing is the only treatment, also more dangerous with OC) (insert appropriate diseases in male cats) They will be free from having a c-section or dying during labour. Free from cancers of the reproductive tract and less likely to get mammary cancer, not to mention they are at less risk of feline viruses such as AIDS, Leukemia, Panleucopenia etc. Your cat won't likely get infections from fighting and definately not from an overzealous tomcat during mating and won't contract sexually transmitted diseases. Their immune system won't be compromised everytime they're on call or having kittens or when there's a female around on heat.

Yeah i'd unequivocally say desexing is the more humane option.

I think what you did was right. There are too many unwanted cats and dogs in this world. Why should we let the animals create more. I spay and neutered my cats.

I agree with you. That lady should have thought that to NOTspay/neuter your cat or dog is animal cruelty, because a lot of animals out there don't have homes and its not fair to them. If the animals who are already living don't have shelters, what makes her think that the new kitties or puppies will? Bless you, and your cat.

That lady is an idiot. You are a responsible pet owner if you spay / neuter. don't worry about her opinion... it's like listening to Forrest Gump on Nuclear physics: not worth the effort.
