I've had 2 cats for over 15 years and recently we've bought a miniature schnauzer puppy, which would now have been here for one year in a few days. Within the first month of bringing the dog home, i assume the stress was too much for the one cat and it died but the other cat stuck around. The cat and dog fight all day long so we keep the cat locked in the basement when the dog sleeps (it's a big basement with a kitty litter box and food, water, etc... Not like we're completely ignoring it) and we let him come up during the day, only to see them fight. Recently the cat has been very annoying, shitting on the floor, not going in its box, and eating the dogs food. I want to get rid of the cat but i know that if i gave it to someone it would just be devastated, however i do have the option to put it to sleep.

Any ideas?

And no, getting rid of the dog is not an option at all and training them to get along is impossible.

It is only when he gets in bed and snuggles with me he will start with a normal purr which works into a "squeaky purr " {that's the only way I can describe it.} It"s pretty funny.

My female cat is bleeding, I can't tell from exactly where (if it is from her vagina or anus), I have found spots on my carpet. I adopted her from a shelter a few months ago and she has scars on her belly and was declawed, so I'm assuming she has been spayed. She is not in heat, and is not acting any different. It is not large amounts of blood, just a very little bit. What could be causing this?

Please someone explain this to me. Go to yahoo images. Put in "ugly kittens". Look at those two kittens and tell me what is wrong with the one with the big black eyes. Warning! This picture is not for the faint of heart! Thanks for your explaination, Maybe I can sleep now.

My cat only goes outdoors in the morning for a couple hours. Well, two days ago when she returned, her mood was different. She was hiding and unfriendly. She's eating. But when we go to pet her back, she growls and snaps. My husband picked her up so I could take a look at her. Her back is extremely tender. She vomited this morning also. There is no sign of blood but I believe there are scabs on her back. She bit my husband and drew blood so we couldn't get a good enough look at her injury. Plus she's black and it's really hard to see anything. She's been hiding for two days. Should I take her to the vet or just let the wound heal on its own? I'm worried about rabies. Her vet didn't vaccinate her since she doesn't go out at night. What should I do?

A couple of months ago my 9 year old female cat began to defecate in the floor evrey once in a while. I have a 10 year old male cat, but I knew it wasn't him because Lucy has gone through phases where she's done this before. She's finicky, so I cleaned the litter box. It didn't help. She has only gotten worse. She's doing it more often and is not bothering to try to be secretive about it anymore. She unloaded in the dining room tonight while I was not far away in the kitchen cooking. What can I do? I am at my wits end with her! Before this, I had to endure months of her urinating in the floor, now this. She still uses the litter box occasionally, but sometimes will defecate right next to it! HELP!!!

He bites my toes, ankles, anything he can reach. He is also very loving and sweet, he rubbs against me all the time. But sometimes for no reason mostly in the mornings when im brushing my teeth or cooking. Is he bi-polar or does he just want attention?

I want to build or have built an outdoor enclosure for my three cats with a cat door into my house so they can come and go as they please. I want it to be secure (structurally sound) and to look nice and blend in with the landscape. Any suggestions? Are there companies that sell prefabricated enclosures? I live at South end of the San Francisco Bay near San Jose, CA. Do you know of anyone in this area who specializes in building these enclosures? Would you recommend them?

I have a 7 yr. old indoor male cat. Since the birth of my 2nd son he has taken to urinating (not spraying) all over the house. It's been almost 2 yrs now and after numerous tests, the vet tells me he is perfectly healthy, just has an attitude and there is nothing I can do about it. So tell me, is it more humane to euthanize him or make him an outdoor cat only? I've had both recommendations from different people.
BTW - I am against euthanizing him for this. He ISN'T starving for attention. We play with him and cuddle with him constantly, he's just po'd. AND, I've contacted a ton of rescue agencies and NO ONE will take him because he is considered "unadoptable" with this behavior. SO, I after kicking him outside, I want to make sure I was doing the right thing. I guess I need some validation to make me feel less guilty about the situation as a whole.
PLEASE no sarcastic answers, just real pet owners who can offer some sound advice.

My feline is very temperamental when it comes to wet foods. Whiskas makes him sick as it is too rich. Shops own brands are a sniff and walk away. Felix and Arthur's don't ask!!! Kitty-Kat - definitely NOT. Doesn't leave me much else and what I can get the other cat doesn't like. Is mine the only 1?
