If your pet is not altered, it is probably looking for a mate. Please spay/neuter your pet!! Thousands of cats & dogs are destroyed every year because there are not enough homes for them all.

The cat could be frightened by someone or some animal that could harm him or her. Or any number other reasons, the primary one being the first one I listed.

Outdoor cats have a very short life span - usually only a few years while indoor cats fed and cared for responsibly may live to 15 or 20. The reasons the outdoor cats have such a short life span is because they are hit by cars, mauled by dogs or other animals (fox, coyote, fishers), contract diseases that are incurable and on and on.

Please alter your kitty and bring him or her indoors where s/he can be safe from danger, and YOU won't be wondering why it's running away from home. You'll be giving your pet the gift of life itself.

I guessing....and this is only a guess, that your cat is running away from home because it keeps getting outside and that's what cats do.

There may be another cat coming around (one that is the dominant one in the neighborhood) and chasing your cat away. Try to watch and find out.

I woulld think you are talking about a male cat. They are mostly adventureous, looking for fights, and very possibly a girlfriend.
All the male cats I have had (un-neutered) had this tendency, sadly some of them never came home. My females have mostly returned after a while.

Your cat is looking for some love. I am sure the cat comes back. Cats are curious.

It could feel scared. Sick cats will run away untill they heal. The best thing to do is to keep her/him inside. Just don't let her have to chance. Try and figure out why she is acting this way.

The "ol' wives tale" is that if you adopt a new pet, bring the pet into the house and lead the animal around the kitchen table leg three times and let it go. Supposingly, this disorients their senses and cannot figure out which way they go. Then they start from where they are "undizzy" from!! I have had several pets and they stuck around!!

Cats are always curious, and love to explore. They always come home though when they get hungry, unless someone picks them up that is.
