I think this is the stuff on ours and it's totally cat proof.
My sister thought leather would be good but her cat shredded it and thoroughly enjoyed himself.

a slip cover really is the best bet. there isn't anything strong enough that cats claws cant tare through or their hair wont stick too.
if you have a declawed cat and don't want to hair on the furniture. the only fabrics i can think of that's easy to clean the hair off of and doesn't stick to very much is leather or microfiber.
best beat tho is to just buy a slip cover or make one out of a sheet. that way the cat wont rein your furniture. not to mention its inexpensive compared to replacing all of your funiture.

Leather is an excellent choice. Look for a manufacturer that provides specific info about the grade of leather. Certain grades are particularly resistant to animal claws or other piercing objects. I have two cats that run around like little madmen--up, down and over the furniture, constantly. In 6 years, they have yet to inflict any damage on my leather furniture.

Concrete. My cat outlived & destroyed EVERY kind of material I could think of to put on my livingroom furniture. If you REALLY want unclawed chairs & couches in your house- trade in your cat- for a dog (& HOPE- it doesn't take a liking to leaving little "surprises" on your rugs!).

I just got some tropical looking patio furniture at Costco, makes my living room look like an enclosed porch like we had back in Guam. Easy to clean if you make your cat mad enough to piss on it, and no fabric legs to scratch.

I think it would be a lot easier if you trim your cats' claws rather than try to buy furniature that they can't ruin.

Faux suede or leather. They hate scratching that stuff, and it's easy to get the hair off.
