Animal hospital... they said if they couldn't get wild life to come and get it they would uthinize it. Was I wrong to leave it there? He hopped around my house for several days and all his pigeon friends seem to have left him behind. I feel guilty now.

Thank you for your answer. He has been off the med for 2 days now and he is no longer just sitting on the bottom of his cage. He is eye is open now and no longer swollen he is eating fine, and his diarrhea has subsided. What concerns me is he never leaves his bottom Perch, does not play, climb, preen or use his cuddle Bone. He is anxious to get on your finger and come out of his cage and is sweet. But he does not want to move and NEVER makes one sound..no chirp or peep yet. I have asked everyone I know...contacted the vet and looked on line and no one knows if this is normal. Can you help PLEASE. I am already attached to him and want him happy and healthy. This morning he was just hanging his head real low... the pet show said to put him back on the meds???

I am in Modesto and we have vets the treat birds but they are no certified which i feel is important, i would not take my horse to a dog vet just because he was willing to see it...
I am sorry but I am looking for anyone who can help me. I got a 6 month old Budgie 3 weeks ago. He is hand reared and VERY sweet. We bought him from an exotic pet store. He was the only male in a flight cage of around 20 other females and seemed quite playful. We brought him home and was told to leave him alone for two weeks. After two days i noticed that he was super quite and just sat on the bottom of his cage. I went back to the store we got him from and they said just wait a couple days and give him a toy, so I did, but the next day he stated wanting to close his right eye. So I went back to the pet store and they sent me home with Ornacyn Plus (antibiotic) and Millet. He was on the med for 5 days. His eye got really swollen and would not open at all for a while and got bad diarrhea, but

my Mum had them, one of them all of a sudden became very quiet. When I picked them up the next day, he (Pinchy) was very silent, he just kept himself really low with his feathers fluffed up. He is shaking a little bit and has not whistled to us for 2 and a bit days now. I have taken him to the Vet this afternoon, but I am worried about whether or not he will be alright...Has anyone else had this problem before?

I've heard various tales about their poo being acidic and burning their toes off, getting them run over by trains or electrocuted on telegraph wires....

I'm not sure I believe any of them, but the fact remains that almost every pigeon I see has foot-damage -one I saw yesterday just had a stump where his foot used to be.....

I find this gross and fascinating at the same time!! Why does it happen?

What about bunches of sticks of trees and stick them together to make a landing frame.

I have gone to a pet shop & seen this beautiful 1 yo scared white Cockatoo. He was in a conner cage, as he was a biting bird, no one wanted him, in fact he was abused, as I seen him people hit him!!! It broke my heart.

I decided to buy him to rescue him. It took me time to make him stop biting (once I ended up in hospital, he bit my hand....)

Now, he does not bite, he does cuddle when I hold his feet, but once he is 'free' he does not sit still, he flying back to his cage, in fact in wants to go INSIDE all the time.

Only sometimes he 'screems', otherwise he is so quiet!

How can I make him to play and talk?? Make him happy? Now with the bird flu going around I was advised not to take him outside as other birds will be attracted and he can get sick.

Poor thing. He is beautiful now, feathers full, however he is still so scared. When he flies away and ends on the floor and I wish to pick him up, it is as if he want to bite, however I just take his feel and he is ok.

I have 4 cockatiels. 3 of them male, 1 female. I know that males are the ones more of a chance picking this stuff up. Thing is my birds are not babies anymore. 2 of them are 13 years old, 1 is 8 years old and one is 5 years old. Do you think they have a chance of picking some words or theme whistles from those Repetitive CDs where they play the word, wait 10 sec. then play it again. Or same with the whistles to certain songs, play short parts of the song and wait 10 sec. then play again or do you think because they are no longer younger that it will never happen?

Suppose this isn't something one would know, depends on my birds. Just wondering if anyone else has had luck or failure on this.

I just got a six month old cockatiel about 3 days ago. I put him in his cage and he has gotten used to it. The only problem i have with him is that he keeps biting me whenever i try to take him out of his cage. What can i do to stop him from doing this especialy because he has learned to sharpen his beak and now his bites hurt a little, before i couldnt even feel his bites because they actually tickled. But when ever i bring my hand near him he starts hissing and breathing hard and lunges at my hand with his beak. How can i get him to stop doing this?

hi guys ..i bet a lot of people know about it here ..but there are few things i wanna know about chicken hatching ...i wud appreciate if u reply with some explaination...so i live in canada and just started working in a meat industry...so just wondering the chicken we use in meat company here ...are they male or female or broiler chickens( i mean no sex at all ) what i was told that broiler chicken grow much faster then male or female but are not able to reproduce ...how much time it takes to hatch an egg (with or without incubaor) ...and how much time it takes for chicken to grow to its fully mature stage...
what other kind of chicken we use here or in US for slaughtering...coz sometimes we receive rooster or fowl chicken as well ...so what's the difference between these two ...
anything pertaining to these questions plz let me know ...

Its true, Has this ever happened??
WHen I went to feed my pareeket the cage was full with blood.
I looked at her legs, they were full with blood, I dont think the other parakeet beat her up, so I figrued It was that she had long nails and maybe got stuck on the wires the cage has and she pulled to get of and got injured.
Is that possible? that if their legs are long that it could bleed?
and does anybody have any tips on how to wash the blood of the birds feathers?
hopefully by tomorrow she will be ok, all I need is to clean her so she would look beutiful again.
And clean her cage.

I have a pair of doves that layed 2 eggs about 4 weeks ago. They still havent hatched. I dont want to remove them in case there is a chance they will still hatch. Do you think their dead? Is this normal? When will I know for sure that they wont hatch? They are being properly incubated. I check on them frequently and the mom or dad bird is always sitting on them.
