My neighbor's beagle had puppies, and after much begging from my husband and 2 sons, I told them we can get one. My husband has always had dogs growing up but this will be my first. I will be the one home during the day with the puppy so training him will pretty much be my responsibility. I have been researching crate training and potty training, and I think I know what to expect...but anyone have any of that "what they dont tell you in the books" advice?? ALSO...we have a 6 year old cat, so what can I expect there? Will she hate us for getting the puppy?

oh ps i have been doing alot of research so im not really looking for huge lists and website links...just some real advice from experienced dog owners!! :)

my boyfriend has a pitt bull girl dog who is about two years old. we were walking her and then we saw another pitt come around the corner, but the pitt was with her owner and did not have on a collar or a leash and the dog did not even look at me my bf and his dog. The dog was being lead by a stick by its owner. Even when his dog started to bark the dog acted as if she did not see his dog. Does anyone know if this is a type of special training? if it is, its a damn good training.

My cat, Bear, he is very emotional and I think a little crazy in the head. A couple of times while I was lying on my bed and he was right beside me. He all of a sudden just up and ran so fast out of the room. I was not moving and he was sound asleep.

Another time he was sound alseep and he just kind of meowed real loud.

Anyone have any similar experinces with there pets? He worries me...

We have twin cats about 6 months old, about three weeks ago one of them started howling, so OK she went into heat. But after a week she stopped. Now for the last couple days she is howling and making this gurgling noise. Is she in heat again? I thought they went into heat for a week and then not again for about six months? My husband and I and even her twin sister are getting really tired of it. If she is in heat again, I know, Get her spayed, which I will do when she gets out of heat, too dangerous now. Thanks.

My kitten fractured his hind leg right above the growth plate. We took him to the vet and had to wear a huge splint for a few weeks.

After my cat got used to wearing the big cast, everything was fine. One day I notcied him shaking and he was very moody. I noticed an odd place near his cast, like a sore beginning from constant friction. We took him to the vet again and the doctor said it was just uncomfortable from the cast and that sores are common. He rewrapped his leg in an even LARGER cast and sent us home.

We took him back Tuesday for a check up and the doctor OKed him getting the splint off because his leg was healing wonderfully. He said they wrapped his leg back up in bandages because he had a few sores but that they should heal up fast. He said if the wrapping came off, it would be fine. We should have no worries, so we took his word for it.

The other night I noticed him whining and crying and licking his leg more than normal. I saw a large flesh wound that was a perfect rectangle shape about an inch long and panicked. My boyfriend's mother cut some of the cast off to prevent any more rubbing and friction and he seemed fine after that. But today we woke up and he is extremely moody and agitated and has an awful smell to him. I was trying to comfort him which he wouldn't tolerate [which is odd because he is extreeeeeemely affectionate and loves to be cuddled and covered in kisses]. I noticed the most foul stench coming from him. It smelled like a month old dead animal.

I am extremely worried. We are kind of leery taking him back to the emergency vet as to the bills from it already and the fact that we are weary of his practices now. It seems when you have a large flesh wound that it shouldn't be smothered or treated.

Has anyone ever experienced this or know what we should do? My cat is in a lot of pain and he has been through enough and it breaks my heart that his condition isn't getting better.

Thank you SO much.

My horse (12 year old male QH) looks like he's stretching his mouth, but he'll do it for hours on end. He's also been a LITTLE bit more tempermental, but that could be because I couldn't ride him for a couple of days. When he does the aforementioned activity, his lips are covered with thick, white, foamy saliva.

Is he okay?

I have a cat, Zeek, that has FIP. He was diagnosed 4 years ago after I had another cat die of it. Zeek recently started losing significant amounts of weight.. He has been kinda skinny for a while, but I think it is getting worse.

I know he eats normally (because I monitor that closely) but he is still loosing weight. Does anyone know anything around the house I can safely feed (or force on) him a couple of times a day to help him gain some weight. I am afraid that if he keeps going he is going to die.

I asked the vet, they said to just prepare for the inevitable, but I am not going to sit here and let him go that easily! If that were the case he would have died 4 years ago with my other cat!

PS He is not lethargic, depressed, feverish and does NOT exhibit any other of the symptoms thus far!

I have 3 dogs and I just found a dog on the street he is a poodle (medium size) I did everything in my power to find his home, he had no collar, chip or anything and I poster flyiers. the inside dogs are: a shi tzu (8yrs) and a toy poodle (2yrs) they get along fine with the new poodle (now named Max). The outside dog is 8 yrs also she is a bull dog mix, we found her in our yard 8 yrs ago and kept her also. the outside dog doesn't get along with the new poodle at all she growls at him like she wants to attack but she is totally fine with the other two. How do we slowly inegrate them to the point where we can put Max on the ground with the outside one and they can play nice without growling at each ohter

Extra info: outside dog is a girl (fixed) and Max (boy not fixed)

thanks in advance for your help.

I'd love some advice on socializing my 6-month old puppy with the new cat my roommate plans to adopt in about two weeks. Here are some details:

My dog is a 6-month old mutt (Jack Russell/Silky Terrier cross) who is pretty sociable but has never met any cats. My roommate will be adopting from a shelter and is looking for a 1-2 year-old cat who has been around dogs before.

I'm looking for advice on how to prep my dog in the next two weeks, how we should conduct the 'big introduction,' and any tips for living with the two of them in the future.

I know you can't force dogs and cats to be best friends, but I certainly don't want either one to be scared of the other!!

-Lauren

P.S. Here's a picture of my little guy in a Santa hat :-)

He's constantly drooling, and he doesn't seem to be in any real pain, but I'm worried because it's keeping him from eating. Please..I know I should take him to a Vet, but I'm not well-off and I don't have the money for it. I need some type of alternative..and quickly because someone at IAMS told me he might have a seizure if his condition remains unchecked.

My husband and I had two mice, brothers who occassionally faught but overall did well together, living in the same cage. Unexpectedly Clive died a little over a week ago, so Grady is now left alone. We can't introduce a new species or a new mouse for fear of him killing either, what should we do to keep him from becoming depressed or lonely?

i have a 2 and a half year old rotti and just got a new puppy in the middle of the night it was dropped off here and i introduced thme and my rotti trying to figure out what she is or why she is here. my rotti was crying all night because she wasnt able to see her to meet. this morning i held the puppy and let my rotti sniff her and she didn't really pay any mind to the puppy but the puppy wanted to play and pounce at her and she got scared and backed off. i have the puppy in my room with a gate up for them to smell eachother threw that for a few days. however my rotti i dont know if it is from crying or whining to much but she is drooling a lot and like foaming on the side of her mouth. is that because she is anxious/nervous or something else...any ideas how to get them to understand eachother or is it going to take a few days
