I would honstly say take her to the vet. But if the vet idea can not be done asap until then Make her a bed or old towels or blankets in an inclosed room room temp. and if you take your hand and feel at the lower part of her stomach you can feel her muscles tensing... these are contraction.. like a human. Make her calm and comffortable. If she is contracting then she may have another pup in her. She will eventually have the pup. It mayb a still birth and its not alive, or it could come out ok. Either way she will have the other pup. It may take a few mins to almost an hour. And when she has the pup rather its alive or not let her do her motherly duties. She should be ok once the pup is out. But like i said before if there is anyway that you can get her to the vet then you deff. need to take her. If not the only thing you can do is sit a wait and help her as much as you can. Also if you cannot take the dog to the vet you can always call and ask them what to do.

You don't know? You didn't do an x-ray on day 57 so that you would know how many to expect?
Ok. An hour between pups is fine. Let her rest a couple minutes, make sure all the pups are nursing (which will help the flow of milk which brings hormones so the uterus contracts). At the 1.5 hour mark take her out on a leash to go potty... she may not want to leave pups.. but she needs to get up and walk and reposition herself as that may help the last pup come. If the pup doesn't come by 2 hours OR if she has been pushing more than 20 minutes, take her in to the ER vet (or your regular vet if he is open)...
Bring the pups with you, in a box with a hot water bottle.. or a two liter bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in a towel, then buried under a towel.
If you bring her in to the vet... ask for a shot of oxytocin BEFORE you allow them to c-section the b*tch. Bring a blank check or an open ended credit card.

I "notify" my vet so that he will be on standby when I note that her temperature has dropped indicating that she has entered into labor. This can be as much as 24 hours before a pup is born and is perfectly normal. It is also still normal for there to be an hour between pups sometimes.
If she is just laying there cleaning up puppies there isn't a problem, yet! If she has actively been pushing for a half hour then there obviously is a problem. At which time you should call your vet again and follow his directions.
Note that I didn't even attempt to tell you what to do, not my job, it's your vets job.

If it's been an hour, and you think she has another puppy and she hasn't been able to deliver it, you need to get her to the vet immediately! It's been too long already! She may have a puppy that is too large for her to pass and may need a C-Section. Don't wait any longer, GO NOW, or you will lose her and the puppies!

Nothing you yourself can do other than call a vet and rush her down there asap....did you get a ultrasound so you knew how many puppies to expect? If you don't go to a vet and there is a puppy then that puppy will soon die and the mother will be at risk of death as well.

dont panic, my german shepherd had 3 pups, 2 days ago and we thought she had finished, she seemed happy and normal no more contractions then 23 hours later to our suprise she had another healthy boy then another girl but the last one died. i was worried incase there where any more with her going so long i took her to the vets they did an x ray and she had a big uterus. If there was anything left they would of had to take it all out or we could of lost her. the xray and injections she had to have cost 162.50. good luck xx

There is often a period of 2-3 hours between pups. It is not an emergency yet. Has she been pushing but no pup is delivered? If so, then she does need to go to the vet right away. One of your parents should be there to help you. Good luck with the new family.

Some births will be space by the hour and no problems, but much longer take her to the vets. You might call your vet and get some phone assistance. Let your vet decide.

Calm down everyone. If the dog is "pushing" and nothing is happening then yes take the dog to the vet. However if the dog seems content and is not in obvious distress then she has either had all her puppies or just hasn't had the last one yet. 1 hour is not too long between puppies. I raised cocker spaniels for years and sometimes they would go two hours between each puppy. If you are still worried call the veterinary hospital and talk to someone to reassure yourself. Relax and be a happy grandparent!

If your pet is still having contractions or still pushing and you don't see another pup being expelled within a short period of time, you should call a vet as pup may be lodged in birth canal. If she isn't pushing or having any futher contractions, all pups have been born.
