my dog ate some rat poisin last night. she didn't eat alot, about 6 pellets, i found this out by checking the weight of it compared to a new one. it is the d-con generation 1. I gave her hydrogen peroxide last night a few times, she threw up most of it the first time, and a little bit the second. i gave it to her until it stopped coming out - 4 times total. my vet is closed today, will open tomorrow. i don't have the money to take her to the emergency clinic. i am hoping to wait till tomorrow morning. she ingested it about 10 hours ago. anyone have any experience with this? i hear about how most dogs ate the whole bag and the were okay for a few days.

My 10 year old moggy is starting to lose weight and I dont know why. I have taken her to the vets and she has had blood tests done , all normal, she has been wormed, and eats constantly. However she is still slowly losing weight and I dont know why. To begin with we thought it was hyperthyroidism, which is quite common in older felines, but her blood tests were normal.
She eats 2 small pouches of whiskas a day, plus small handful of cruchy biscuits on top. She drinks normally, likes the odd bowl of milk and even eats out of the dogs dinner bowl when the dog isnt looking!!
I am at a loss, in every other way she is quite normal, and healthy. Her coat is fine, and the is quite perky and playful. The only other thing she has wrong with her, which she has had for a few yeas, is small purple type tumours in her ears, which irritate her and cause her to scratch and shake her head alot. The vet says this is ok and theres nothing they can do about them?? Anyone got any ideas?/ thanks

It was Sept. 1st. My parents didn't tell me until last night. We got her on the side of the road from a free kitten sign. She was just 6 weeks old. We have had over 8 cats with no success at a nice one. She was the nicest cat in the world. She was 1 year old last month. She bonded with my rottweiler and my other cat. Now my other cat is looking every where for her! They are both indoor cats. My dad took her to an old vet friend of ours, he has 1 leg, and cannot eat. He is one hell of a guy. He said she had a congenital birth defect, which made her have a hole in her heart. She finally just curled up in a ball on my livingroom floor fell asleep and didn't wake up. SHe was just a baby! We found her with my dog laying next to her sulking. She used to give me kisses, and she slept with my dog. She was fixed. This will be a tremendous loss for my family.

God bless you Kitter.

Ok well not help with declawing itself but rather a policy. We got a cat from a shelter that was about to be put down because she'd been there so long - I fell in love with her and just COULDN'T let that happen. So we brought it back to the apartment and then went and told the rental office we'd got a cat, so they had us sign the proper papers. We'd mentioned getting a cat several times during the interviews and the lease signing, and they'd said when we got it we'd have to pay $250 nonrefundable deposit and sign the Pet lease (along with $15 extra per month pet rent). All of this we said okay to (it seemed a bit extreme, but oh well.) However, when we went in to sign the papers, all of a sudden THEN we're told we have to have the cat declawed for it to stay in the apartment - we're even required to show the bill for the procedure to them! Now I personally do NOT agree with declawing, but they specifically said NO EXCEPTIONS. (Further details to come, I ran out of space.)

I bought my cat a catnip bed and he does not seem to be all interested into it, I laid some catnip in it and I place the bed on the floor and you'd think since there is catnip in there, that he would always lie in it and enjoy lying next to it, instead he always goes underneath the bed. In bed he lies next to me instead of sleeping in his cat bed that I lay at the foot of the bed. Its weird.

I want something medium sized, active, generally well trained. The only problem is that currently I only make about $200/mo, but I can work more at my other job, or pull a second job. I have money that I can spend, but I don't want to keep pulling money out of my bank account and would rather just use some of my paycheck to pay for the dog. I have family that may help pay for the dog, but I would rather want to make sure that I could pay for it by myself, and not have to rely on others.

Also, I don't have too much yard space, but live really close to an elementary school and state park. Any ideas on a good dog for me, a first time owner?

This question is only open to those who know about dogs please dont answer wrong because answering wrong means taking risk with my dogs life...Actually the vet says he has got severe gasteriris followed by viral. My dog is critical and has not taken in food from TEN days!!!!!!!!!!! Can u believe it 10 days. Whenever we do force feeding he vomits it. Whenever we offer him food he walks away. He is a golden retrievier and is 4 years old . He is really weak. The vets had said last week that he would die. But fortunately as my mum and dad were doctors so they put him on the iv line. He has to be put on it for 3 hours every other day. When we consulted another vet then he was surprised to know that our dog had not eaten any food from ten days.We have tried all types of vaccination....As directed by the vet we brought his choicest foods like vanilla ice cream, egg yolk, milk cake, custard, banana, boiled sweets, chicken etc. Inspite of all this he refuses to eat He also has depression .........

Last week I asked the question are dog fighting and hunting the same as far as outcome is concerned? Now I am the last guy that thinks dog fighting is cool. But some of the answers were a bit ignorant. The answer that was chosen best said that hunters kill and eat, and that hunters kill instantly. Not even close people. I've seen six shots go into a deer befor it finaly ended it's life. I've known many people who fire and then take only the trophy stuff with them. Yes, many hunters do kill to eat, thats ok. But, with what I have said, is sport hunting, which a great majority of hunting is, so much different then dog fighting? And I think none are ok?

My pet German Sheppard is12 years old and is now in serious arthritic pain, ankle joints are swollen?
he can't walk much and so lies around the house. I have been advised to give him pain killers or else he will stop walking altogether due to the pain. Is there any other helpful advice please?
