I bought my cat a catnip bed and he does not seem to be all interested into it, I laid some catnip in it and I place the bed on the floor and you'd think since there is catnip in there, that he would always lie in it and enjoy lying next to it, instead he always goes underneath the bed. In bed he lies next to me instead of sleeping in his cat bed that I lay at the foot of the bed. Its weird.

Well, it's not weird at all. The cat naturally goes where he's more comfortable.

Virtually every cat owner in the world has brought home expensive toy and beds that their cat has dissed.

Not all catnip is created equal, either.

Petco makes some really good store-brand buds that are pretty potent.

Some cats just don't respond to catnip.

You can't make him use the bed, and if you keep trying to he'll get so suspicious of it he won't even try it when you're not looking.

Dogs sleep on the floor next to the bed, not cats.

I have found that cats rarely like what you expect them to like. My cat never slept in her cat bed--my roommate's cat who was way too big for the bed squeezed himself in it all the time. There isn't a way to "make" cats like something. You can keep the bed around and see if he changes his mind, the catnip might intrigue him eventually--but not every cat loves catnip. You can try washing the bed with your detergent and keeping it on your bed so it smells more like you. Cats are very sensitive to smells--it may still smell like the store and the people who touched it. If he doesn't use it after a few weeks he probably won't--and trying to put him in it and make him use it will definitely make him not want to use it. If you are really set on him sleeping in the bed you can trying Feliway Spray on the bed, it is supposed to calm cats and make them feel comfortable. I've read a lot of good reports on it, but haven't had much success myself (and it's expensive).
At least it sounds like your cat likes you since he lays next to you instead of in the cat bed, I'd rather my cat liked me than a bed :)

Well, not every cat is actually attracted to catnip. My own Mom had a calico that was repulsed by catnip while the other two cats loved it so it looks like your cat is one of the few that just don't care for it. So really there's nothing wrong with your cat...it's just picky.

I have so many cat towers and cat beds for my cat....I buy those instead of clothes and shoes for myself....she rarely sleeps in them. She likes the floor instead. I go to the store see one of those cozy bed things and think "oh kitty would love that." I get it for her and the crazy cat would rather sleep on the floor. I don't get it!

That's just the way cats are. You can buy or fix them what you think is the perfect bed, and they won't even go around it. But you gotta love em!
