Gasteries is fixable(for a price) . It will need to be at the vet for probably 10 days with iv's fluids and antibiotics. This will cost a bit, but you said you would do anything to save your dog. If you can't afford to save it, then it's not fair to the dog to let it suffer like this. You need to go put it down.
The reason dogs get this is due to giving them pple food. Their bodies aren't made to digest it. I've seen this happen in a lot of small overweight breeds, but they are usually saved.
Make a decision on what to do and get the dog out of it's misery, it isn't fair to let it suffer like that. I'm so sorry, I love goldens the best, myself.

Have you guyz had x-rays done? You need to make sure all of the possible diagnostics have been done. If the vet hasn't done it although you CAN afford the costs, I would suggest changing to a new vet. If you can't afford it, then the vet is bound legally and you have to figure out some way to get money to be able to do all the diagnostics. Either way, fluids given everyother day to this dog will not save his life, and eventually even on those, he will die. There has to be an underlining condition why he is not eating. You just haven't found the right reason yet.

Gastritis is inflammation or an infection in the stomach. If he hasn't eaten and kept it down in days, then I wonder if it is just an infection.
What do the x-rays say?
They HAVE done x-rays to check for an obstruction, right? Any chance your dog ate a sock or a ball or ???If he has something stuck in there it could be causing all this.
If they haven't done x-rays, find out why. Also get another vet to take a look. It makes no sense to me that a vet would say a 4 year old dog was going to die and just let him go home without trying iv fluids, etc.
Good luck

This dog is only 4, wow he,s very young with lots of life ahead of him, so I cant blame you for doing everything in your power to keep him alive, at the same time I had a cousin who,s dog had the same problem and Im sorry to say her dog did,nt make it, this is a life threatning situation. Your dog is suffering and while I feel for you I also feel for the dog, If their is no hope then accept it and put him out of his suffering. I once had a dog that I loved as much as any family member so I know where your coming from and I know you dont want to let go, but why prolong reality? Once again, I am so,so,sorry.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog being this sick. I know what you are going through. One of my Dals was diagnosed with diabetes and I was giving her insulin shots. All of a sudden she started vomiting everything she ate. The vet took an xray and found she had stomach cancer that was spreading to other organs. He told me she was eating just to please me, but wouldn't be able to keep it down. (Otherwise she was still active.) I had to make a very hard decision. The vet told me that when the quality of the dog's life is gone it is time to think of euthanizing the dog. It is the kindest thing you can do for a dog who is suffering. My dog was suffering vomiting all the time so I decided I should put her to sleep. She wasn't going to get any better. I felt terrible and I cried during the whole thing and afterwards, but I know I did the right thing for her. It was painless. You will have to decide about your dog's quality of life right now. You know him best and I'm sorry to say, you will have to make the decision for him. I am so sorry. If I can help you out by talking about it before or afterwards, let me know on my blog. I care.

Take your dog to the vet for x-rays. Find out exactly what is wrong with him/her. All th foods that you have listed is bad for a dog who is so very weak.
I understand that you want to save your precious dog, but your dog is trying to tell you something, don't let him/her suffer it isn't fair to him/her.
You need to find out what is wrong, if it cannot be fixed then you must put this dog to sleep.
I had a 11 yr. old Lab and I promised him that I would never let him suffer. When I had x-rays and found out he had a obstruction in his bladder and that even a healthy dog would never be able to go through surgery let alone my dog I put him to sleep. It is painful, and that was July 6, 2007.
I miss him dearly but I know that he is not in pain. I did everything that I could with blood tests, x-rays etc. Please don't let your dog starve itself to death, do the most humanily thing you can do............don't feed his the foods you suggested, find out what is wrong......then go on from there......you need to think of the dog first....

I don't get it?!
Your parents who are doctors knew enough to put your dog on iv fluids, but none of you knew enough to take the dog back to your vet or get a 2nd opinion???
There must be more to it, vets don't say "your dog may die in a week" without a proper diagnosis.!
Did they take xrays to rule out obstructions or cancers?
Did they take bloods to rule out cancers, pancreatitis or any other number of things.
If you dog has gastroenteritis this is normally easily solved, not a pleasant problem, but solvable.
What are they vaccinating against? If the dog is already ill, what good will vaccines do?
Who on earth feeds their dog boiled sweets??
Now I can believe your dog hasn't eaten for 10 days,
What I CAN'T BELIEVE is that instead of getting your dog the medical attention is needs, you've wasted time on a computer!
Go to another vet straight away!! It's that simple!

Take your dog to the vet, dont just sit on the computer while it is suffering get it to the vet, and QUICK!!!!!! even though you have already been to the vet apparently, your dog needs a doctors care. I hope your dog feels better soon. I really do care about your dog. And i know what you and him are going through through

firstly i am very sorry to hear of your problem .never ever an easy time.
would a re visit to the vet not be in order ?
dogs should not ever be fed your list of foods either .
ice cream boiled sweets are full of sugar and can only do harm .
is it possible that injecting many different types of vacine may possibly add to the problem as oppsed to help?
it is impossible to diagnose on a forum such as this but if your vet is offering you no hope as it sounds he is . try a third opinion . i wish you success .
