Last week I asked the question are dog fighting and hunting the same as far as outcome is concerned? Now I am the last guy that thinks dog fighting is cool. But some of the answers were a bit ignorant. The answer that was chosen best said that hunters kill and eat, and that hunters kill instantly. Not even close people. I've seen six shots go into a deer befor it finaly ended it's life. I've known many people who fire and then take only the trophy stuff with them. Yes, many hunters do kill to eat, thats ok. But, with what I have said, is sport hunting, which a great majority of hunting is, so much different then dog fighting? And I think none are ok?

It seems you are trying to justify dog fighting to yourself. Evita

I hate to see an animal die...even when it's natural. But, I know animals have to die to continue the food chain. If I had a choice of going out hunting with someone and going to a dog fight, I would choose going hunting hands down. Who could really enjoy watching two dogs maul and mangle each other until one finally dies......this is gruesome and hard for me to understand a person who would love to see this.

I'm not a hunter, nor do I know anyone who hunts well, but this is what I think......Hunting has been around since the beginning of time. This is how man survived....just like animals need to kill to survive. Now it's done mostly as a sport. I think most hunters enjoy being outdoors...they enjoy the fresh air and appreciate nature. When they kill, they care about the suffering of the animal and do what they can to kill it and not let it suffer. They also use the meat to eat. Hunting is controlled and it also helps the over-population. I think when some hunt with dogs, it gives them a chance to work closely with their dog and they work as a team. Hunting is far different from seeing animals being torn apart and allowed to suffer.....you can't even compare the two.

There still is a great difference between dog fighting and hunting. Unless you are going to go out and ON PURPOSE shoot deer to torture them. Like shooting out one leg at a time to see it suffer. Most hunter, if looking for a trophy, are more careful than that. Most hunter looking for meat are also more careful. None seem to enjoy the torture of the animal.

Dog fighting takes a DOMESTIC animals and raises it to kill another of it's own kind FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT! They are frequently kept in AWFUL conditions and the only medical treatment they get is by some idiot that know nothing about vet care, ot they get shot so they don't cost any money.
Some are born just to be bait for the "better" dogs. They never live a normal life.
At least deer and other wild life live normally before they are hunted.
Hunting also aids in herd control. Sometimes it is a great benefit to the population.

I hate hunting, but it DOES serve a purpose and you cannot say that in any way about dog fighting.

The reality of life is simple, there will always be wars and there will always be dog fights. I hate dog fighting but we have to face facts and understand that it will always be. We can enforce our laws and shout all about it but then it goes underground and out of sight is out of mind. Every country in the world has dog fights and where money can be earned or respect gained it will continue. I personally own a Japanese Akita dog - They had a past history of dog fighting. My dog has never had a fight and I hope he never will but when a dog tries to attack him like Labradors etc. it makes me feel good that he could take them out. I don't agree with dog fighting or believe in making money from it but the pride of owning a large breed dog is exhilarating. So to be fair I can understand why some people would be into the sport. I must say though that watching anyone or thing kill another is disguisting and plain crazy. Live and let live!

Hunting is considered a sport by many rather than a way to provide food. You are certainly correct about that. There are even "sport clubs" where idiots go and shoot fenced game for the fun of it. They take the antlers and leave the meat. That feeds the same bloodthirst desire as dog fighting. So I agree with you in some cases.
But, there are many people who hunt for food. So I guess it would depend on the motivation.

Ryan, You need to do a little research on hunting of any type. Hunters pay for their licenses and that money pays for a myriad conservation efforts. Hunters help maintain a balance of healthy and diverse populations of wildlife.
Hunting is an integral part of the fabric of our economy and cultural heritage and it is also an important wildlife management tool. Everyone benefits from the excise taxes that hunters voluntarily pay on guns, ammunition and outdoor equipment. Since 1937, hunters have contributed over 4 billion dollars through the Pittman-Robertson Act for the benefit of all wildlife species. These dollars have been used to purchase millions of acres of public lands.

Through over 10,000 clubs and organizations such as NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Safari Club International, National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Quail Unlimited, sportsmen contribute an additional $300 million each year to wildlife conservation activities.

Hunters and fishermen fund nearly 75% of the annual income for all 50 state conservation agencies. Through license fees and excise taxes on arms and gear, sportsmen contribute $200 million per year for wildlife conservation.
The irony is that if not for hunters, many species would have become extinct!

torturing and/or killing an animal for sport is wrong. Killing to eat is different. I may not have been that plain on my answer and I'm sorry for that. No animals hunted for food are not always killed right away, but at least they die so that something else may live. Dog fighting the dogs are hurt or killed just so someone can get their jollies.

Why you would use dog fighting to advance your agenda against hunting escapes me. There is absolutely no connection there.

IMHO, everyone has the right to their own opinions, but lets talk about earning the right to freely express them.
Please tell us just what wildlife programs you are participating with?? Just what is it that you do (besides making noise) to enhance our wildlife resources??

Would you like to take a guess what we spend per year to maintain just this one small piece of waterfowl habitat??

In the southwest water casts ten times what gasoline costs.
So how much is spent per year to keep that pond flooded???
How many hours would you guess are invested in maintaining those nesting boxes???
How much income is lost because that property is flooded instead of planted in feed corn??
This "sport hunter" probablly spends more in a year on wildlife preservation than you have spent in your lifetime.

In other words, put your money where your mouth is, a wild animal will live for it.

I agree and am against sport hunting - but i think dog fighting is despicable - these are domestic animals that are being turned into vicious creatures and all this inbreeding is what helps make a certain breed unacceptable as a pet as these animals taught to hurt and kill and can never be trusted - it is abuse and the people that think this sport is a good one have serious character flaws - i think all offenders not only be fined and stopped but need jail time as well

In my opinion, there is noting wrong with combining sport hunting and hunting for food...sport hunting on it's own I think, is wrong, completely wrong, but that is only my opinion. Dog fighting? That is something completely different. Sometimes I think that the people who raise dogs for that purpose and promote dog fighting, are just attempting to live vicariously though their dogs, not having the courage to assert themselves in a socially healthy manner. That's my two cents worth.
