We are picking up our new puppy tonight and the puppy is only 6 weeks old. We do not want to let the dog sleep in the bed with us, so we have a wire crate that we want to use as it's home.

We want to make this transition as easy as possible for the little gal, and were wondering if it would be a good idea to sleep on the floor next to the crate for the first night....or should we just bite the bullet and sleep in our bed and deal with the yelping all night? We are going to have the crate next to the bed if we do that.

Do you think if we sleep on the floor by the dog...will that set us up for failure?

Any other tips for the first night with a new puppy would be appreciated.

Thank you

I am considering getting a pet dog. I have been studying the breeds, and taking inventory of what kind of care/attention I can give one. There are simply so many breeds that I am confused!

I know I need a breed under 25 pounds, one that will be good with other pets (4 gerbils and a hamster, that will be in cages or run about ball), and children since I someday plan to have them.

I am an active person, willing to take the dog on walks or runs, and also willing to clean up after sheds, or accidents. I do work full time, so I would not be able to be there during weekdays, but nights and weekends will be fine.

I live in a large apartment that allows smaller dogs (under 25 lbs.), and I have quite a backyard to work with, though it is not fenced (the dog will be supervised during all outdoor time).

Everything now said, what kind of dog would suit my lifestyle?

My dog is been in the hospital for the past 2 days. Is very sick with several conditions that we didn't know he had. Everytime we went for check ups they used to say he was ok that it was very common for dogs of that breed (yorkies) to have those episodes . The dog was always sick and sad. Where I live, Puerto Rico pets are not consider part of the family by society, is just not part of our culture. The country is not pet friendly period. My heart is broken because I feel that theres something that they could have done to prevent this in the past. He is a wonderful dog. I am so dissapointed with all the vets that saw him, none of them really cared. In other words you don't see here what you see in ER animal planet, vets fighting and helping the pets in need. . I heard that a lot of them rather put them to sleep and later tell that theres nothing they could do for them, is so sad. I am in my home in tears right now thinking that my baby is all alone in a hospital room, God knows how.

i got a kitten a week ago and i think my cat hates her. the first few times they met i held the kitten while the cat was on the floor so the cat could get used to the smell/sight of the kitten then after a couple of days they met on the floor, and the cat just hissed at the kitten and the kitten backs away and lies down. but my sister told me that she accidentaly let them meet the first time and my cat licked the kitten but my sister was too nervous. every time they have met since the cat hisses at the kitten and she has even tried to swipe at her. when this happens i tell the cat off and pick up the kitten. the kitten is really good when they meet she'll take a few steps foward then wait to see the cats reaction beore she moves again. i don't know what to do. my cat has had kittens and one of her kittens had kittens but that was 11 and 9 years ago.

I adopted a kitten and they told me today she has ringworms... I can take her home tomorrow with 1-week oral treatment and a tube of topical cream.

I have a 1 yr old dog Shih Tzu and he is on heartguard. I was told this can prevent ringworms....

I can pick the kitten up today or ask for her to stay there untill the (1 week ) treatment is done.... but i read that the spores are still contageous even after treatment... so whats the point?

i plan on secluding her in one carpet-less room for at least week

so what do you suggest I do?

I have two dogs, female and male, both chihuahuas. I got them from different owners and I saw the mother for the female and they were the same size for the male I had. But she hasn't grown. I got her in march and I was expecting she would grow to be the same size as the other one. I found them copulating and I think she is too small to have babies. I don't know much about chihuahuas and I wasn't expecting her to be in heat so soon. I separated them now, but I think she is pregnant. I am concerned with her dieying at giving birth. Does anyone know what I should do?

I had 34 feeder fish in the tank with my 4in. RES and 1in. Yellow Belly and my 2 1in. Map turtles. They ate 32 of the feeder fish in less then 15 minutes. I was feeding them pellets but they would eat like 20 of them so i got feeder fish. I had the feeder fish in the tank for at least 2 weeks. last night one of my maps caught one and my RES was getting up set because he couldnt catch them. after 10 minutes he learned to wait till they go up and sneak up under them. My RES went a killing spree. Does this mean i need bigger feeder fish? He eats them fast. We got him 1in. feeder fish because we thought they would fill him up. but i guess not.

I've been fishkeeping for a short period of time. And I noticed I get a skin reaction to my hands due to dechlorinator or other med related products put into the fish tank water. I've been to various pet shops in my city looking for long arm plastic gloves for tanks, but none are available/they've never had it. I would like to know if I purchased brandnew rubber gloves (like those used for kitchens), would that be safe for the fish?

I know rubber and plastic have chemicals, so I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have not used gloves at all, I wash my hands with water thoroughly, however, given my skin allergies...I have to find a way to put my hands in the tank with gloves...and I do not want to kill a fish due to any type of gloves.

Feedback on what I should is appreciated. I've been told to use sterilized med gloves, but they are very short for a tank.

Thanks

A brave lion has showed up in the neighborhood. I have discovered my 8 year son has been hiding him in the basement and feeding it and everything. I want to contact the zoo but my son is so attached. He did care for it for 3 weeks, maybe the family could make it a family pet because our dog "Sandy" went missing 2 weeks ago.

I'm so scared that my water isn't clean enough that my RES turtle is getting sick. There's some white fuzz all over his skin! It seems very excessive. My other turtle who's in the same tank isn't affected at all. They're babies by the way and I've had them for 4 months now. On a closer look it could look like he's shedding some skin.. but I'm not entirely sure... and it's really getting me concerned!

Okay, so I have two puppies that are currently on Innova puppy food (dry & wet). I just recently got a new puppy and her stool has not been very solid at all, and I was worried that the Innova food might be too rich for her. So I asked my vet if I should switch her food, and to what, and he recommended Eukenuba, Science Diet, and Royal Canin. Now I KNOW the first two are not good foods, but don't know much about the 3rd. I know you can get it at PetSmart, which makes me think it is not so good. I was thinking of switching them all over to California Naturals or Canidae, since one of the older puppies has loose stool often as well. Should I pick one of those, or follow the advice of the vet?
