You may be able to get a Cockateil or Parakeet.
Technically these are members of the parrot family.
If you are talking about one of the large Parrots, They normally sell for $600 and up. Medium sizes like Quaker Parrots can sometimes be bought for roughly $200-$250.

The only alternative would be for you to get a rescue bird. These birds , however, have very special needs, and require a very experienced owner.

You could never get a parrot in $50. You could get a parakeet or some other small bird in $50. A parrot costs about $600 and up. But then again you would have to get toys and a cage and food. So all these things will add up to more than $50.

You may be able to get the parrot for fifty dollars, however if you are getting a large parrot like a macaw or amazon, or even a smaller parrot like an eclectus, you are going to need to pay a lot more for the cage. we bought i 500 dollar cage, and although you could definitely find ones that are a lot cheaper, if you do not plan on having the parrot out very frequently, the parrot may get sick and mean because of the space issue. And parrots can live very long, so this is not a spur of the moment decision. i suggest that if you are only on a budget of fifty dollars, you should not get a parrot. maybe a finch or something would be good, a bird that is more for decaration than taking out and handling..

The Cockatiel and Parakeet (Budgie) mention above about your best hope for $50. Where I live young cockatiels are around $50 and parakeets are $20. Then you have to think about cage, toys, food etc.
"IF" you watch the paper you may find a Parrot that cheap and maybe a give away. Here the run down. These may be older birds. They may be aggressive (Bite your finger off). They may have belonged to someone who died.
Why I say this? I know a woman got a very friendly Blue Macaw for free when it's owner died. The family did not have time to care for it. This bird was probably 40-50 years old.
Another person I know, got a free Cockatoo (Not cockatiel) cage, food, everything for free. The bird was meaner than a wet Hornet! No one wanted it, so, he got it. This bird was about 8-10 years old.
These Free and cheap deals not come along often, but, they can happen. Good Luck!

Likely a small one BUT What about the other expenses involved? You have cage perches, toys (which you need to buy at least 2 times a month) , dishes, food (buying every week if not every other day for veggies and fruits, pellets seed mix high quality fruits vegetables), vet care.
Than you need to add up the time and work involved which is like raising a child really.
Maybe you should stick with either getting a very small bird for now IF you can handle these other expenses or wait a while

Cockatiels or parakeets. They're a lot of fun for the price! Try going to a private breeder, they're so much better than going to a PetSmart or some such store.
