I took out the hood/top of the tank and I put the fluorescent lamp directly on the fish tank. It seems that its brighter than before. I put the light where no water can splash into it due to the airstone. Is it still dangerous? My fish never jumped before. Evaporation doesnt seem like an issue to me and my tank is brighter than ever.

P.S. I cleaned the glass from the fish tank top but even that the glass is crystal clear, it seems dimmer than without it.

I've never owned a cat before. I've always had dogs. I got this cat as a 6 week old kitten. He's a Siamese. After he uses the litter box he washes his paws off in the dogs water bowls. Often at night he washes them in my glass of water that I leave by my bedside. I thought cats didn't like water.

My neighbor recently took in a puppy that appears to be around 3-5 months old and I'm considering adopting her. She appears to have been a stray and it's not known if she has had any of her shots. Is it dangerous to give them to her twice (in case she has had them)? Is it too late to give her all of the recommended shots (is she too old)?

Hello there! Me, my husband, and our two children would like to adopt a dog. We have a privacy fenced backyard and would prefer to keep the dog outside.

We would like a dog that is good with children, playful but not too energetic that the dog would hurt someone. Does anyone know anything about dogs that could help us? Thank you to everyone for all the help!

Today we saw a tortoise/turtle in our front yard but we can't seem to identify it. He was large, maybe 2 feet. His shell was a solid dark color and looked almost glossy. His head looked kind of pointed and he had spikes going along his tail (which was very long). We are native to the chesapeake area. My grandmother thought it might have been a terrapin, but I could not find any pictures that looked remotely like what we saw. Does anyone know what kind of turtle this might be?

How will I know if my parakeets are mating? It may be a silly question, but is there anything out of the ordinary that they do? I don't have a nesting box. They have been on the bottom of the cage and one on top of the other. It's quite a show. Also, if they are mating and become pregnant, how long does it take?

I just found out tracks of mice at my apartment.. I'm scared to death and besides the traps and stuff I've been getting I keep looking at rat sh*t everywhere EWWWWWWW!!! I have like 5 people so far to get a cat. I don't like cats but I hate mice more...I know I can get use to a cat but ONLY if they do what people say they do (keep mice away). My convict fry is about 2 - 3 weeks old and they are still in the tank with their parents.
I took the cave out they spawned in so that it might delay their next spawn.

They are still looking after the broad but i was wondering 2 things

1) how long will it be before they spawn again.
2) when they get a little larger i was gonna put them in my community tank with my platys guppies and neons, will they be ok in here.

I was at a fish store yesterday when I noticed all the tanks had what appeared to be a slice of lemon or possibly orange in them. Most were totally eaten, some the fish were busy biting away at. Has anyone heard of doing this? Is it good for the fish? I have 3 large goldfish that would probably love it, but I wanted to hear some feedback first!

Our dogs have a run, our whole yard is not fenced. We are getting ready to fence the whole yard which is huge, but I need some ideas to keep him in until it is done. Everytime we think we have it fixed so he can't escape, he still does. We even took him and had him fixed, it didn't help. He scraped all the skin off his face getting out a few weeks ago. I feel so bad. The other two dogs don't do this. We even have the top of the pen covered. Please any ideas will help.

the computer, keyboard, and mouse. How do I get her to stop? It's very cute, but it is annoying when it takes five minutes to type a simple question like this. She stans in front of the computer so you can't see it, and steps on all the keys on the keyboard.

We are owners of a 11 month old English Bulldog and are wanting to get her a playmate. Instead of going back to our breeder or a petstore we decided to try our luck at rescue organizations. I have checked many of these places and they basically want your first born to adopt a puppy/dog that no one else wants. I understand that they want to find a good home, but why so many regulations and stipulations? Most of the online sites say will not adopt out of the area or state.

Our female recently began looking and feeling pregnant. Our male cat is fixed so we assumed that it had to have happened one day when she was accidentally let outside for a few hours. Well we had been stressing out trying to figure out what to do with a litter of kittens, then yesterday she suddenly does not have her "tummy" anymore, and it appears she had vomitted all over the place. We immediatly began searching for a litter of kittens but there isnt any. She has had one previous litter and her stomach had felt the exact same so we assumed she was pregnant, but now we dont know what to think. Could she have been just sick? Or is it possible that she was pregnant but something happened?

Today i noticed my Guppy's stomach getting large and she has a gravid spot, she is just staying in one spot of the tank facing upwards with her tail touching th ground, i put her in a seperate breeding tank and she is hiding in plants.

I have 7 marble mollies, 3 girls and 4 boys, (babies in a breeding net), one of the male mollies is swimming to the top of the water and looks like what appears to be eating or gasping or something. His mouth is at the top rim of the water almost like he wants out. His favorite position seems to be next to the glass and breeding net. He doesn't look ill or anything and he eats.No other fish join him and he's there for at least 30 min of every hour.
