i HAD A HERMIT CRAB AND IT DIED SO I GAVE THE UNDERTANK HEATER TO MY BABY RED EAR SLIDERS IS IT TRUE THEY CRACK IF THERES WATER IN THE TANK OR IS ONLY WHEN IT DOESENT START WITH WATER AND THEN GETS WATER SPRAYED ON IT!

No Not if it get water on it if it will crack the glass if the glass has water in it

RES's need a heat lamp, not an underwater heat source unless the room is cold and their water is cool. The heater really wont do much if the tank is large and it will break if it gets water into it. I would say best thing to do is make sure the RES tank is in a warm area, buy the heat/UV lamp, and scrap the heater.

Underwater heaters will often crack if they get hot, then get wet, so they should always be underwater before they are turned on.

New RES owner here, but it was my understanding that they didn't need a heater in the water unless your keeping them in cold climate or room. They only need their basking light and a dry spot to lay and bask on.... BTW person above me with the link, thanks I can't wait to check it out :)
