I need to litter train my puppy, I don't really know where to start, I've never had a cat and I've always had a backyard with my other dogs. But now I live in an apartment and he's home alone during the day. Any Tips?

I have two guppies and one black molly. One of my guppies had indigestion/constipation, so I researched remedies and found that if you seperate the fish and added a teaspoon of epsom salt and do not feed the fish for three days, it will cure it. Sure enough, it has made a dramatic difference. The fish is much happier, no longer bloated, and it drastically helped it's Rickets (a spinal deformity due to low Vitamin D). I don't think any of my other fish are constipated, but I was just wondering if adding epsom salt to the tank of all the fish would benefit the fish. It worked so well on my constipated guppy, should I add it with all my fish? I am just wondering if epsom salt in a tank is a healthy thing or not. Thanks for everything!

p.s.I'd love to know as soon as possible because I'm about to clean the bowl and if I should put epsom salt in there I want to do it with this cleaning. Thanks again everyone!

I am looking at populating my tank solely with Neon Tetras. My tank is 22 UK gallons. The tank is about 4 years old and everything in it (substrate and ornaments) have been used in other tanks, also I have been cycling the tank for 8 days now. It has a sponge filter, UV light, air-pump, four plants, a few ornaments including ones big enough at the back of the tank to provide hiding-places for moments of solitude.

I would be very grateful for advice on the following:

How many can I safely introduce at once?

How many can I (eventually) have in total given the tank size?

Is it safe to keep the UV light on for a few hours at night?

I will be buying a heating unit in the next few days - how long should I run that (and at what constant temp??) before I introduce the first fish?

I also intend to buy a complete test-kit to cover ammonia/nitrite/nitrate issues. Any tips on that and water change frequency/amounts?

Anything else?

Many thanks for your informed advice :-)

I have a tropical tank, but this question concerns my other tank - a coldwater one with three small Goldfish in. I would guess it was around 5-6 gallons. The fish are not big by any stretch of the imagination but they have all grown since I got them (one fish is 2 years old, the others are nearly a year old) and therefore have out grown the tank.

Now, here is the question. Out in my back yard I have one of those wooden pond things (not an in ground one) that holds I would say a good 20 gallons, if not more. If I got a liner for the pond, filled the bottom with gravel and purchased some plants, could I transfer my indoor fish outdoors?

Would that work? could my fish cope with the changes in weather/water temperature and lack of filtration? would I need to add any conditioners to the water?

I want to move them into a bigger space ASAP but I am really not sure of how to go about it and whether it is a safe idea or not, considering that they have been in a tank inside?

My adult female cat weighs 12 lbs. The vet said she should be eight to 10. I feed her high quality food - Innova Evo Dry, which is 51% protein.

I started feeding her this brand five months ago. She was still a growing kitten, eating the recommended portions. Now she's over a year old and has a belly. Two months ago I cut back the suggested portion for a 12-lb. cat to a 10-lb cat. She was still overweight, and a month ago I began feeding her the suggested amount for an 8-lb. cat.

She does get exercise. I have her chase strings for half an hour at night. She plays with my dog. And of course, she goes nuts and chases shadows for a few minutes, like every nocturnal cat.

Can cats get fat from eating high-quality, high-protein foods? Also, she is spayed, and I've been told spayed cats tend to gain more weight than intact cats.

I don't want to cut back on her food anymore than I already have. She's healthy otherwise; she just needs to trim down.

Any ideas or tips? Much appreciated.

I just got a male kitten and female kitten a few days ago. The lady that I got them from said that the were both litter box trained. They are about 3 months. The male goes fine in the litter box. However, the female will not have a bowel movement in the box. The box is in the bathroom and I'm always finding her feces in the bathroom near the box. SHould I get seperate litter boxes? I think she urinates in the box because I'm not finding any where in the house. Help me please. I need a quick fix!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have two red eared sliders and I’m going to upgrade them to a bigger tank soon (50 or so gallons). They make poo all day and I need something more powerful to filter it out. I currently have a Whisper 40 in-tank filter, which does not do a good job and requires tons of maintenance.

I know the basics of filtration (chemical, biological, mechanical) and water quality but what I want to know more about are canister filters. I’ve looked up a bunch of sites but I don’t understand what many of them are talking about…all kinds of unexplained jargon and descriptions of things I’ve never seen.

Can you give me a detailed beginner’s introduction to canister filters? For example, what does it mean to “prime”? How do you change filter media, and how often do you do it? What are some canisters you would recommend for fudgy turtles, keeping in mind quality, power, ease of maintenance, and price?

Thanks!

I bought a little kitten from this woman who claimed that the kitten was complete on vaccinations and was neutered. When I went to pick him up, she said she couldn't find records of his shots and that she would call me when she found it. She hasn't called yet, and is not answering her cell phone. I even asked her to give me the number to the vet she took him to so I can get the records myself.
I can see that the kitten is neutered, however, I am bringing him to get checked out at the local vet, and I don't have records of his shots. Will the vet vaccinate him again? Is that safe for the kitten.
He is the runt of the litter and is very tiny for his age, 14 weeks
(looks like 4-5 weeks)
I wish the woman would have some compassion for the kitten and be honest and get back to me. I would never give him back to her, not after the irresponsible way she is behaving.

i have a 20 gallon tank with a under gravel filter, and 2 top filters "rated at,"1" 10gal,"1" 20gal," i have about 27 assorted plants in it.. 5 Tiger Barb's, 1 Beta Crown Tail, 2 Gerome's, 1 Catfish, 1 Chinese algae eater, and 4 "Baby" Electric Blue Cichlid's "temp, soon to be in 55gal," all add up to exactly 18 inch's total.. i feed them 2 times a day, once at 9am and once at 9pm, about a quarter size of food. i have taken all the plant's out at one time and it just got yellower so i put them back in.. although i have noticed that i have to wash my filter's every 2 day's cuz they fill up with stuff.. is there any way to get ride of the yellow fog, and maybe get it so im not cleaning filter's every 2days .. if possible??

i also have a 55gal doing the same thing but its a clear fog.. and i only have about 20 inches of fish in it.. under gravel and a dual bio wheel filter..

both have been up for a good while, and filter's are only 2 weeks old...

I have an oscar and a pleco in a 55 gallon tank. The oscar is not even a year old and is probably like 6 inches long. He is not big. My pleco on the other hand is huge. We JUST did a total water change 3 days ago, put in new filters, and again already the water is disgusting and green. Why can't we keep this tank clean?? Isn't the pleco supposed to help? Do I need a bigger thank for just the two of them? I feed my oscar small amounts at a time, I make sure he eats everything before I give him more, and I scoop what he doesnt eat out of the tank.

Maybe my filter (not the cartridges) itself sucks? But the cartridges always have a ton of stuff on them. I just dont' know what to do and I feel bad for my fishies living in filth.

heeeeelp

I posted a question a while ago asking advice on how to care for a cat that had an infected wound on his lower jaw. I very directly stated i could not afford to take this cat to a vet, yet many people scorned me on not doing so. I thank the people that gave me advice, and to the people that did not, I'd like to inform you that my cat is in full health. Sometimes you can't afford a thousand dollar vet bill on top of rent and bills, and I'm not going to live in car for this cat. Some said I obviously had interent and a computer, but for the record, my building gives free wi-fi and the comp is a gift. I'm between jobs and waiting for 3 dif calls right now. Paying my way through college. Spent months finding an apartment that was pet friendly. You are just prude. I would like to hear from others that had the same problem with the answers some have given.
My cat is fine, by the way, thanks to a $5 tube of neosporin and good food. I give him more love than money, sorry you cant get that.
