I am worming a 15 week old puppy. My children are on the floor and put their hands in their mouth still. When will it be safe to have the puppy in the house again. It is to be an indoor dog.

If your kids do not eat dog poop then it is safe. You run more risk of getting worms by being outside then around the dog. Your pup should be on heartworm preventative which takes care of worms too. You should be cleaning up the dog poop outside every day in any event.

Leaving the puppy outdoors will likely lead to it getting additional worms via eggs in the soil, on grass, etc. As others have said, be sure to monitor and clean up stools, wash bedding and vigilitantly keep your floor where the puppy stays clean.

Of course, the wormers only kill adult worms, not the eggs which will continue to hatch in upcoming weeks. That is why your wormer will say to repeat the treatment--and will also give the number of days or weeks to repeat the treatment. Be sure to follow the cycle completely to eliminate the newly hatched worms as well.

You and your children may also get worms, so deworming is an important regular regimen for the life of a dog.

You should have your kids wash their hands often dog or no. When the puppy defecates it is important to check the feces for large round worms, they are really easy to see. Clean up all the feces, throw away and disinfect really well so the puppy won't reinfect itself with worms. Follow all directions on the packages about when to worm.

If you have already given the wormer it is already starting to kill the worms so it should be fine to bring the puppy in. It will usually pass any dead worms within 24 hours
