I posted a question a while ago asking advice on how to care for a cat that had an infected wound on his lower jaw. I very directly stated i could not afford to take this cat to a vet, yet many people scorned me on not doing so. I thank the people that gave me advice, and to the people that did not, I'd like to inform you that my cat is in full health. Sometimes you can't afford a thousand dollar vet bill on top of rent and bills, and I'm not going to live in car for this cat. Some said I obviously had interent and a computer, but for the record, my building gives free wi-fi and the comp is a gift. I'm between jobs and waiting for 3 dif calls right now. Paying my way through college. Spent months finding an apartment that was pet friendly. You are just prude. I would like to hear from others that had the same problem with the answers some have given.
My cat is fine, by the way, thanks to a $5 tube of neosporin and good food. I give him more love than money, sorry you cant get that.

I did'nt see this question so was unable to answer it. There are too many people desperate to criticise other peoples way of life. You were responsible enought to ask for advice, therefore you should not have received crticism for your way of life. Your cat obviously means alot and when life is not going well, our animals are there, uncomplaining, uncriticising to see us through it. Don't take it to heart. I am glad your cat is fine and I am sure your are as good and caring an owner as he could ask for. Good luck for the future, your cat will be your friend, no matter what.

Sorry to hear you got the bad advise.

If you cat gets another abscess:

Keep the wound open by flushing twice daily with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water and apply neosporin like you did before. If there is swelling apply a warm compress for 10-15 minutes for 3-4 times a day.

I know a little late, but glad to hear your cat's doing well

I think your love for your cat was obvious in the best care you could give him. I think the cat is lucky he have you as his parent. I believe you would have taken him if you could have afforded it. You don't need to answer to anyone else but yourself. I instantly like you for the kind of person you seem to be. Good luck with that sweet thing of yours. I have been in your shoes a couple of times myself. I know the feeling as I am sure many, many others do as well. Good Job.

I'm sorry that I missed your original question, but am happy that your cat is doing well. One other medicine that can be used.....for pets.....is called Nolvasan. It comes in many forms......jar of cream, tube of ointment, or "squirt" tube of "infusion". For an abcess that is contained, and not really open, I use the infusion. Just get the abcess open, drain the fluid out, and squirt the opening full of the liquid. It works wonders. I've used it on cats, dogs, and even horses!

unfortunately i didnt see your initial question because I would have told you just that to invest in a tube of neosporin and that is all you would have needed...also unfortunate that all vets cannot be trusted to give the proper care that people can afford and they prey upon the fact that people do love their pets and they swindle us for all we have to save our pets...trust me, my cat was very ill and they swindled me for $1000 and she died 2 weeks later anyways...so unless it is serious i dont take my cats to the vet anymore ...im with you on this issue!!! and trust me the neosporin will do the trick...

Wonderful point! I just completed my rant about people in this section always saying,"Go see a vet!" Check it out under the Pet section, labeled "Vet? Or, no vet?"
