Well you do not say how old you are, or if you have a house or apartment! You also do not say why they won't let you have a dog. Maltese are very expensive dogs. If I were you I would sit down with both parents and ask them about having a dog, listen to what they have to say as to why you can not have one. It may be that they do not think the dog will get enough attention, maybe your family has a busy life and can not be home as often as you need to be. If this is not the case then you could tell them you will take total care of the pup, that means, cleaning up poop and pee, vomit sometimes. Feeding properly, fresh water, house training, bathing etc. Buying the pup is just the beginning of the expenses, then there are vet bills, vaccinations and if it gets sick yet more bills. So I suggest you sit down with your parents and openly discuss all this with them.

Dogs are a big responsibility and expense. Maltese dogs need consistent grooming every 2 months by a professional groomer. This isn't cheap. The hair doesn't stay in one place like some people think. It grows and grows requiring consistent professional grooming and in between grooming sessions, brushing and combing by the owner. Maltese dogs have very find wispy hair that mats easily. They do shed unlike some people think, the hair just mats. The coat requires a lot of care. Every time the dog walks on wet grass the hair will mat. Then there are the vaccinations, worming, vet bills, quality food to buy, license fees, and soon to become law, neutering or spaying. any dog over 4 months of age. Barking problems are the responsibility of the owner. Owners can be cited for noise ordinances in all big cities now. If your dog bites someone, you and/or your parents can be sued.

Then there's the issues of potty training, obedience training, exercise, yard clean up, etc.

Maybe they don't want the responsibility. And maybe they think you're not ready either.

Responsibility is the key word. Have you thought about earning the money for a maltese on your own? Your parents may see how responsible you are trying to be by trying to earn the money that they might give in and match you dollar for dollar or even just buy the pup and have you put your money in savings for the puppies care, food etc. A maltese is not a cheap puppy. Be very respectful always to your parents and do everything in your power to prove you are responsible enough to own your own dog. The money thing should help out a LOT..Maltese are a bit expensive and your parents may not be able to affford one for you,so try it,you may be suprised. Good Luck!!

To show you're parents you are responsible, keep your romm, or bathroom clean for a month or so. Try Nintendogs first, it is just like having a dog, but not near as hard. Read a lot of dog books, so your parents know your serious. Make up a chore plan and show your parnets. Remember, maltese are long haired dogs, lots of grooming. Offer to do some extra chores to pay for feed and vet bills. Don't beg, it's pitiful. Most parents have to deal with kids who want a dog soooooo bad, but then after it potties in the house, eats some garbage, and gets locked in the kennel all day, they dont want it any more. Train your dog, brush it, feed and water it, and read, read, read up on every thing from breeds, grooming, first aid, anything useful!!!! Please make a good choice!

Ok this is something I know how to do. In all I have gotten 2 dogs, a cat, and a hedgehog out of my parents.

1) First let them know, casually mention the thought of getting a dog. See what the reaction is. If its good continue to step 2, next I'll give you another set of directions if they're initial reaction is bad.

2) Do RESEARCH!!! Go on line and read about where to get your dog, how much it would cost, what to feed it, how to train it, where to get its shots, where to spay/neuter it, the works. Also print it out, make pie charts, my parents thought it was absolutly adorable when I set up a whole meeting with diagrams and everything, play up on the cute factor, it helps.

3) Prove you responsibality, set some goals. If you have any exsiting pets willingly take over full responsibility of them. Take them on walks longer than necessary, train them to do tricks, put on a dog show. Make sure they have no burdens when it comes to whatever that animal is ( and everything else, I mean do all the chores for everything -even if it doesn't have to do with the pets- with a smile on your face, even offer to do more! ) . And if you don't have an existing pet make a deal with them, if you can succsefully train/take care of a computer animal do that, also try borrowing a pet, ask your friend or neighbor if you can have their dog for however long and take care of it to prove your responsiblility. Set some goals with your parents, if you sucessfully do blank for blank amount of time you get a dog. It could be the sttuff listed above, or it could be making good grades or not arguing with your siblings.

4) Make sure that the only thing your parents have to do is pay for the dog, and drive over to get it. Take care of everything!

Now if step 1 didn't work out read this.

2) do the above steps 2 & 3 ( step 3 without the promise of getting a dog when your goal is reached )

3) Ask your parents why you can't get a dog. Thay really will have to work hard to get out of this one, haven't you already proved your responsibility? Haven't your grades been the best ever? Haven't you done your research? Unless someone in your family is alergic ( and I really can't help you on that one ) they have no excuse to say no. A maltise is a small dog, won't hurt the furniture.

Thats my advise.

PS- I suggest you get a Maltipoo ( 1/2 Maltise 1/2 poodle ) Because their hair is shorter and they don't shed so you don't have to brush them everyday -Moms hate shedding animals. I have a Maltipoo and shes the funniest thing on 4 legs. My Mom absolutly adores her! For some pics and info try www.buypuppiesdirect.com or www.mixedbreedpups.com or even www.buypuppiesdirectbynet.com . Hope this helps!

My daughters who are 13 and 15 have a maltese. Your way of winning your parents in letting you get a puppy is to show them how responsible you are. You have to show them that you will take the dog out when needed, feed and clean up behind the dog. The main thing is to show them that you are responsible.

Dogs are a lot of responsibility. You won't be able to take off to a friends as easily, especially over night. All your free time is going to be spent taking care of that dog. As cute as you might think a new puppy is, your parents know what is best for you. Maybe you should start out with a goldfish?

show them you are responsible inother matters first. it may be they are afraid after the new wears off you will lose intrest and they will end up taking care of the puppy. they reguire alot of work and cant be tossed aside like a toy when you get tired. Maybe you can start by offering to dog sit for someone, show your parents you can do this. do research and let your parents know you care enough about getting a puppy to learn about whats in store. dont beg every day cause as a parent for me that will get you a big fat no. talk is cheap youd have to show me you are ready and mearly bgging for a dog wouldnt work on me. Good luck!

Tell that having a dog will teach you responsibility. Also, promise to clean and take care of the puppy yourself. If that doesn't work, offer to buy the dog yourself. If you don't have the money, work to get the money, I'm sure your parents will pay you to do chores around the house. That will also show them that you are
-committed to getting a dog and
-responsible and possibly ready for more responsibilty than they are giving you
If all that doesn't work, try babysitting other neighbors pets, to show your parents that you can take care of animals (and once again showing them that you can handle responsibiliy
