If that is what you think then do not get one because you will be unhappy and just get rid of the dog.

I think you should revise your plans to not include getting a dog. If you think they are too expensive to buy, you should give it up right now. What are you going to do when it needs vaccinations every year and a heartworm test and medication? What will you do if it is injured and needs to go to the ER? Do you know how much good brands of dog food cost and how expensive natural dog treats are? If you think they smell, what will you do when it gets sprayed by a skunk or throws up in the living room? Or gets sick and has diarrhea?
Please don't subject a poor animal to a life with someone who doesn't even like dogs enough to spend some money and live with the smell.

Dogs are too expensive? -- False. The best dogs come from rescues and shelters and could be anywhere from $50-$250.
Dogs have a terrible smell? -- False. That relies solely on the owner. Dogs must be groomed daily (teeth and hair brushed, etc.) Bathing should be done regularly too (depending on the breed and skin type).
If you are not very fond of dogs (that's what it seems like anyway) I would suggest NOT getting one. They do have accidents and throw up from time to time. If you are not prepared for this, you are not ready for a dog.

dogs are not to expensive. do not bother buying insurance for them. If your dog is sick and about to die you could just put your dog in the dog pound and they will take care of your dog. Also I used to think they had a terrible smell because my parents told me that a long time ago, but I found out that they were wrong when I adopted my 5 yr old german shepherd. If you give them a bath every week, they will not shed at ALL or WILL NOT STINK. I also thought that big dogs smell worse than my 1 year old yorkie but my yorkie smells worse because I always forgot to cleean my dogs pee place but they actually smell better than my kids when i clean the newspaper everyday. Having one dog is Ok but when I adopted my german shepherd my yorkie actually had someone to play with and he stopped having accidents because I found out he had anxiety problems and wanted another dog. I love my german shepherd because he saved my life two times. one time was when i forgot to take my blood pressure pill and the second time was when we went swimming and then someone broke in the house and bit the intruder. I hope you adopt a dog and save a life. GOOD LUCK!

If you think they are too expensive before you even buy one... please don't!!!
And even if you were willing to put worth the money that it takes to care for a puppy properly, if you think they stink.. I don't think you would want to give it the love and affection it needs....
Just don't get one!
**Avon2me4u- You might be able to get a dog for 50- 250 from a shelter... but you still have vet bills, expense of dog food, and as you mentioned further in your answer dogs teeth need to be brushed (you gotta buy those supplies for the rest of that dogs life... which could be up to 15-16 yrs!!!--- dogs are expensive. But most are well worth it!

Haha then why bother.. If you think they are expensive and they smell.. Then get something else.. Don't bother bringing home a dog to find out that you are too picky only to find out that you need to find a home for him later.. Go wash your hands and get yourself something like a gold fish.

IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT DON'T GET ONE . DOGS ARE NOT A SHORT TERM INVESTMENT THEY CAN LIVE TO16+ YEARS. IF YOU THINK BUYING ONE IS EXPENSIVE RAISING ONE ONLY INVOLVES MORE MONEY. I HAVEN'T EVEN MENTIONED THE TIME INVOLVED: A DOG NEEDS EXERCISE DAILY !! AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SMELL YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET A FISH. DID I MENTION THEY SHED! A DOG DOES NOT SOUND LIKE THE PET FOR YOU.
