I just got a male kitten and female kitten a few days ago. The lady that I got them from said that the were both litter box trained. They are about 3 months. The male goes fine in the litter box. However, the female will not have a bowel movement in the box. The box is in the bathroom and I'm always finding her feces in the bathroom near the box. SHould I get seperate litter boxes? I think she urinates in the box because I'm not finding any where in the house. Help me please. I need a quick fix!!!!!!!!!

Ask the person you got the kittens from if she had two litter boxes (if not, don't use two); also, ask what kind of litter she used; if she used any kind of litter deodorizer (if so, what kind), or if the litter box was covered or open. Kittens, as well as any other baby (including human babies) can suffer from separation anxiety problems. I strongly agree with keeping the litter box as clean as possible and I use 'Tidy Cats Litter Deodorizer' after I clean the litter box. If you hear her scratching(other than in the litter box) put her in the litter box, every time that you hear her. You might also try keeping her and her brother in the bathroom with the door shut for a couple of days and she will learn from her brother(maybe). Good Luck, and be patient.

I would start with getting her her own litter box. It may be that she does not want to use it if the other cat's scent is on it. Also, make sure you clean the litter box regularly...as some cats are more particular about cleanliness than others. Another thing is try and see if you can catch her doing it. If you see her doing it try to move her into the litter box. See if that will encourage her to use it. If she appears to be in pain when going then try taking her to see a vet to rule out any medical conditions. Otherwise, just be patient with her and over time she will get it.

You're suppose to have one litter box per cat, plus one spare. If you live in a small apartment, though, I don't know what to tell you. Once upon a time when I only had one litter box, my male cat wouldn't allow my female cat to use it. Maybe with more boxes around, the male cats are less territorial? Who knows?! I don't know if this is the same situation for you, but if you have the room to spare, try and put another one in there. Two small ones are better than one big one. Also, they're easier to clean.

Well, from what I understand, there is a 1+1 rule. 1 litter box per cat plus an extra one. If you have the space, get 3...one for the male, one for the female and an extra for safe keeping.

Yes, I would purchase another litter box to see if she goes in there. Cats are quite finicky creatures and she probably feels like she cannot go b/c your male cat goes in there.

Yes, put another litter box in there near the first one. Some cats are very picky and want a fresh box each time they go. You may need to put several smaller ones out thru the house until she gets the message.

First I would have her checked by the vet to make sure there are not any underlying problems. Then yes, I would have 2 separate litter boxes available in more than one area of the house. She could be having some problems that you are not aware of. Also, just because you are not finding any urine any place else, doesnt mean there isnt any. Are you 100% certain that its her doing it? Have you seen her do it? If you have, then as soon as she starts squatting, put her immediately into the box. This should help her.

Best of luck to you.

She could very well be picky and prefer her own box and may not like the smell of her brother's feces. Get another box for her. I had two cats twice, and they preferred their own boxes, even though they were next to each other.

Sometimes cats do not like to share a box so it might be wise to try another box to see if she will consider it. And of course, make sure they are cleaned everyday so they don't turn to an alternative.
