I have been taking my dog to the same place to get a bath for years. They do a wonderful job. My question is, I have NEVER thought to tip them. If the fee is $20.00, I pay $20 and leave. With a hair cut, of course I would give a nice tip, but for the dog groomer?

Is it common to tip these kinds of places? I want to start if that's the case. thanks.

we have a small pond in our backyard and we like to stock it with feeder fish in the spring. usally by winter about half are left (garter snakes eat some). I live in the mountains in Colorado and it gets VERY cold in the winter so last year i brought them inside so they wouldn't die when their water froze. This ended up being pretty counterproductive as they all died. I was blamed for a long time because I used a clean metal bucket that at one point held cleaning chemicals. This winter, my dad put them in a big glass fish bowl and like the last ones, they died about two days later. We're getting a water heater this year but I still don't understand why the last ones died. I think it was the temperature change, but I would assume in two days they would adapt. They could have been over crowded (12 in an about 2-3 gallon tank) but this situation is much better than at the pet store. They may have not been getting enough oxygen but I've had goldfish in a bowl with no bubble filter. THANKS!

Okay, most of us know that all dogs were created from inbreeding and crossing breeds way back when. I'm wondering who and how it is decided which dogs go on to become AKC recognized dogs as opposed to a mutt, because in a real sense, all dogs are mutts? Such as many of the new designer dogs that people are making. I'm sure it's just a matter of time before one of them gets the label "pure bred" and becomes a recognized breed by the AKC. Who sets the standards? How do they make this decision?

Hope this question makes sense.

Ok, when we got Kiser (lab mix, stray - about 10 months old maybe) she seemed to adapt to our home and family with ease. She was friendly, quiet and had very few accidents in the house. I never noticed her having an accident unless we went to0 long between letting her out. Anyway, then one evening I got sick and went to bed early. DH, who brought this dog home but is clueless to pet care, didn't take her out. In his defense, she would go to the door and sit no barking or anything but STILL!!! So, I got up the next morning and found four puddles of pee and three piles of dog poop in a line from the foyer through the living and dining rooms. I cleaned it all up with vinegar and water, tongue lashed DH and went on. Since then she has had an issue with pottying in those rooms. No matter how often I took her out, how much excercise I gave her, etc.. She kept right on leaving deposits! Just those rooms though. Then she started crawling under DD's bed and pooping. Just her bed, no one else's.

Country life where they can run and play all day long or city life where they can stay indoors all day and be pampered?

I have a male cockateil. However, underneath the dark pupil of his eye (like the place on our eyes where tears appear), there appears to be a blood-red bit that sort of outlines the bottom of his eye. Its not bleeding like...dripping blood or anything.
Apart from that, he is acting normally - whistling, playing and active as usual. he doesnt seem to be in any pain...

Is my cockateil hurt?

I am picking up my mare's shoulder more for showing 1st and 2nd level and she is moving beautifully- except when we go to the right, she becomes uneven strided at the working trot- the right hind does not come as far forward. It is not all the time, but every couple strides or so. At a medium trot though, she is even. To the left at both trots, she is even. Walk is fine and her canter is actually more forward, collected, and uphill to the right than the left.
I have been trying exercises to stretch it out for the past couple years and make sure I work both sides equally- or more on her bad side with little success at the trot.
She can shoulder-in on the right fine, but has a lot of trouble leg yielding that one way.
Oh- she is a 17.2h mostly draft mare by the way, if that makes any difference.

Any exercise tips to get her to stretch that right hind farther at the trot? Or, which probably goes hand in hand, strengthen it as well.
Thanks ahead of time!

I had a single kitten from the time he was around 4 months. He's now around 6 months. I just got a new kitten about 2 weeks ago whos about the same age/size.

They're both fixed.

I kept the new kitten in a seperate room that my kitten wasnt used to being in. She has her own box, food dishes, and she stayed in there. They sniffed under the door, and played with one another.

My first kitten chose to sleep by the door to the other kittens room every night.

I held one and my fiance held another last night, and they both purred. No hissing, scratching, etc. My first kitten even started licking the other one.

Today, we allowed them to be together without retraints, and i'm having a lot of problems!! The new one got to look around a bit to get used to her new surroundings. When we let the old kitten out (we've taken a few breaks, seperating them and putting them back together) they seem to start playing but go into fighting/biting and scratching.

Is this normal? What do we do?

MY ferret is sick, well she is acting normal but I saw her throwing up this morning and the only exotic animal vet wont be available until 10:15 tomorrow.. so please dont tell me to go to the vet. Well I was force feeding her water with a syringe and now she is constantly hacking and kinda having trouble breathing.. I dont know what to do to help her. I have been patting her on the back like a baby, holding her upside down and doing that and everything. Please can anyone tell me how to help her or atleast tell me if she is going to die tonight from it? I mean she is still running around and climbing up my arms and stuff but the coughing really scares me.. help please.

Quite often, my cat will sit and stare at me very intensely. It's kind of freaky. Sometimes I wonder if maybe she's my deceased gramma reincarnated...
