Tho not all people do, it is customary to tip someone who provides you with a service. Restaurant servers, it's usually 15-20%, as their hourly wage reflects the assumption they will gain tips from their tables. In the case of a hair stylist or in this case, dog groomer, 10% is consider acceptable, since their wages are not "lowered" like they are for restaurant servers. Ofcourse, with any tipping, if you have someone that does really well, or maybe in this case is obviously really good to your dog (good at keeping the dog comfy during what can sometimes be a stressful ordeal) then it's not unusual to increase the tip a little. The plus side to doing this, when appropriate, is that person will likely remember you and knowing that you have taken good care of them, they will likely take even better care of you and your dog the next time. Tipped employees ALWAYS remember the big tippers!

I'm a professional groomer, and while groomers don't live off tips, it's just like your hairdresser- it is considered polite to tip the groomer. The amount depends on the size of the dog and the involvement of the groom- a Great Pyrenees owner should tip substantially more than a short-haired Chihuahua owner.

I tip our dog groomer. She always does a great job, plus I know I'm leaving our dog in good hands, so I feel an additional "thank you" is warranted. Our bill comes to $26 and I give her an even $30.

I dont think I am a cheapskate but geeeezzz why does everyone have a hand out for a tip. If the fee is 20 then pay 20..... if they want more they should charge more. I hate being made to feel guilty when I dont tip people for doing what they get paid to do. That does not include people who work for TIPS ONLY.

I do, but that is because I figure they did a great job, and I tip the salon people so it is basically the same thing only for my dog.

I take my puppy to PetCo to get groomed. On the receipt from the grooming salon, it says something about "Tip Code". My guess is that the groomer then gets a cut from the amount that PetCo gets in their paycheck.

Yeah if they did a really good job give them 10-15% tip. They do work hard on getting our pets clean and it can be a tough job.
