I'm tired of buying cat food and having the dog eat it. Why not just feed him the cat food? He's not overweight. I'd like to put the bowls on the floor for the cats and dog. Separating the cats is difficult. If weight isn't the issue and the cats like the cat food then why not? The dog is a Labrador Retreiver.

He just eats it and I know it's bad for him. HELP! I used to have theese little pom-pom things. He would find a way to pull on of and eat it! One day I found about an inch sticking out of his mouth. I thought it was just a little peice so, I pulled it! I pulled and pulled and it was a really long one! I got the whole thing out and it was coverd with this gross white sticky stuff. Why does he eat this. I don't understand. I dont want him to suffocate him self!

I find it quite interesting that people seem to want to own an animal, but again they are not certain what they want. It's one thing to be researching the types of animals and animal care, but it's another thing for people to own an animal just to be owning an animal. To own an animal because others own them is not necessarily good. You need to own animals because this is what you want and not because you feel that you are an outcast. It's better to volunteer at a rescue agency if you have no means to care for them. Animals need love, food, shelter, and occassionally they need to see the vet. These all need to be addressed before you get an animal. I have seen way to many animals on the brinks of starvation (and some do die) just because people can't afford them. To find you can't afford the animal and to throw it away like garbage is very cruel. Please! Know what you are getting into before you take on an animal. They are alive. They are not inanimate objects.

He'll bring me a hair tie and hold it in his mouth until I ttake it. I toss it and he fetchs! It is soooo cute but I want ot know if it is normal. Is he mentally challenged or does he think he's a dog. I don't want it to stop unless it's bad for him in some odd way(I hope not).

I live out in the country near a busy country road... In the past yr alone I had five of my pet cats hit by a car. When missing I instintively go to a spot on the raod where 9 out of 10 they will be...but only as an incorpoararted part of the road. Am I doing something wrong? It happens mostly at night. Any suggestions?

I'm cycling a five gallon tank without fish. I know it isn't the best way, but I am using a bacteria supplement instead of fish, and since I do not have access to an established tank. I bought a testing kit, and I am wondering what I should be looking for with read outs as far as nitrate, nitrite, ammonia and Ph levels go. I've heard they are are supposed to rise and then zero out? Is this correct?

I'm only planning on having a couple of small fish (maybe a couple danios or cherry barbs, and a cory cat). Can anyone give me some good information or sources on the numbers I need? Thanks!

sleep in, she'll sleep in all 4 corners quite happily (i'm presuming anyway) she is 16 weeks old. my previous hamster only ever slept in 1 corner, never anywhere else. is my hamster trying to tell me that she's not happy? she seems fine, loves her cuddles and i let her out every evening for a run around the kitchen. i have tried putting a nesting bed in her cage but she moved it out of the way and never laid on it. any advice would be great as i'm not sure if i'm worrying unnecessarily, feeling paranoid as i lost my other hamster very suddenly and want to keep my new hamster as happy as possible. thanks. x

This is probably a stupid question considering the fact that I have two other cats. But I have a 9 month old female pastel calico who is still really tiny. Shouldnt she be almost done growing? We got her at 2 months and she was super tiny, smaller then most kittens but she was not a runt, her parents where small also. Could she be done growing at 9 months? I really would like her to stay this small becuase she is really cute and so much smaller then my other two. The vet seems to tell us she is healthy so I'm sure it's not like a health thing. Shes not under weight or anything just small. She looks like about 6 months and is going to be a year in march.

I have really wanted to get a Papillon and I just want to see who all has had one and what they think of it. Do they bark a lot? Are they easy to train? Are they easy to potty train? Are they good inside dogs? Also, did you find it cheap or had to pay a lot???
Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Melissa

I have been learning about Shih Tzus for the last nine months, and I am seriously considering adopting a puppy in February 07. I have found a couple of reputable breeders with litters just born, and the only uncertainty I have is as to how much is fair price. Considering the costs involved at adoption, overpaying at purchase is something I would rather avoid. What are fair prices for limited AKC males/female puppies? How much pricier should an "imperial" puppy be? Besides health, warranty and pedigree, what other considerations are wise to account for? Thanks for your answers!

Whenever my dog feels hungry like we havent fed him in years or something he just decides to jump on the counter and get food. Or sometimes when he cant reach the food he makes my other two cats to knock them off the fridge or something. What should me and my family do to stop my dog from jumping on the counter??!!

Has anyone taken their dog?

What did you like and dislike about the facility and the instructor(s)?

Please share your experiences. (

I'm currently researching training facilities in my area.)

My husband and I have a boxer/lab mix that we got from a shelter. He is approximately a year and a half. He has been through training already and does ok with standard commands, when he's calm. He's just very stubborn at times.

Anyway, here's the deal. There are times when I am home alone with our dog and even if he's calm and being lazy, if I turn my back to go to the restroom, go to another bedroom, do the dishes, etc. he will usually get something off of the dining room table or somewhere else, go under our coffee table and proceed to chew and swallow whatever he has gotten into. We have rawhides, kong balls, ham bones, etc. for him to chew & play with. We crate him when we go to bed at night and when we are out of the house. We walk him about every 4 hrs or so to go to the bathroom because we do not have a fenced in yard. We take him for long walks, short walks, play with him, etc. Nothing we do seems to change anything. Do we have to crate him everytime we go to the bathroom?????

I think she is about 7 months old. We are in week number 3 of the heat. The bleeding has dimished tremendously; she isn't wearing her puppy pads right now (she takes it off anyway; can't say that I blame her on that one). I noticed her nipples getting bigger about a week before she started bleeding.

I would get one JRT first, get her fixed at 6 months and wait until she's at least a year old before getting another female JRT. That's what all of the websites say to do in order to have two JRTs of the same sex. Is this true?

And as long as I take her/them for hour-long walks/runs in the mornings and evenings, would she/they be okay in a large apartment with two cats?

The cats would be about 6 years old (they're used to dogs) by the time I would adopt the first JRT puppy; and one is a tom and the other is female, if that makes a difference.

Also, my mother has JRTs and they always play (sweetly) with her cats. Is this rare, though? I read that the hunting instincts of JRTs sometimes make it difficult to mix JRTs and cats.

What do you think? Any *polite* info will be most appreciated. Thanks.
