We are looking for a dog and want everyones opionion we are deciding between a shih tzu or a Brittany

Of those two, I would pick the Shih Tzu. Mainly because Brittanys are so hyper and not usually very bright.

Wow...those are two VERY different breeds, just so you know.
The Brittany is a hunting/sporting dog with lots of energy.
The Shih Tzu is a fun little dog with cute personalities, but definitely nowhere near as active as the Brittany.
Brittany dogs are struggling with some tough genetic diseases with their eyes and elbows, so you want to ask your breeder about their certs. regaring those conditions and their lineage.
I would personally go for the Brittany only because I prefer larger breeds over the small breeds.
But either breed is a great dog.
It all depends on what you want in a dog.

The best breed of dog would be up to you! ask yourself these questions.
1. how much room do we have in the house
2. how big is my yard
3 how much time do I have to spend with my dog
These are 3 very important questions along with how much money do I have to spend on vet bills. Some breeds require a little more money for vet bills then other dogs, some breeds require way more exercises then other dogs! You and you family should sit done and research together to figure what breed is best for your family. A mutt or mixed breed dog from the shelter can also make a great pet and you would be give a dog with out a home and place to live. Walk through the shelter and see how many loving and adorable faces you will see in there.

Have you looked at the Chinese Crested? They come in full coat and hairless! I like Shih tzu's; however, I know very little about either. I am a Crested fan :o) Good luck in your quest for the perfect dog, I am sure whatever you pick you will be happy. Oh, yea check the breed rescue first!

If it is just between the two get the Brittany, but out of all the dogs in the whole world, I believe that mutts are are the best. They just are because you know that they are not inbred and have less problems with their bones and stuff, at least that has been my experience

If it's between the two only, I'd prefer the brittany..I have a bordercollie, and would never get any other breed than that.. You should be a match for your dog, research each breed, and make a decision

We have had four Brittanies and we LOVE them. They are hyper and need a yard to run in and regular exercise, but they are wonderful with children and other animals. They love to play and cuddle. My husband hunts with ours and says they do well in the field. If you're looking for a friendly family dog and you have time to exercise them, I think a Brittany is an excellent choice!
