We have a four-year old lhaso apso mix, which we got two years ago. For those first two years, we lived in a large apartment. There were never barking problems.

We just bought our first home, and it has a fenced in backyard. Now, from the time our pup goes outside to do his business until he comes back in, he is barking. It doesn't matter what time it is, and it doesn't matter if we are with him or not.

He barks at EVERYTHING. If he glimpses any type of movement (even shifting light, it seems) or hears any sound from the other side of the fence, he runs in that general direction barking his head off, and doesn't stop for quite a while.

I understand that he's probably just protecting his territory, and having a backyard will be an adjustment for him. But my husband and I leave pretty early for work, and we don't want to be the annoying neigbors with the noisy dog. What can we do?

I've always believed that animals should live in houses with BIG BACKYARDS!!

Maybe this is just my excuse because growing up my brother had every animal you could think of and he never kept them clean - - now I have a son who wants a dog and I am totally disgusted by the whole idea of it and keep telling him he can have one when we get a house (he's almost 13 now) and we still live in an apartment am I wrong to not let him have a dog because of my childhood with my brother?

I have three and they all get along well and are very spoiled. They live in a very large cage and do get alot of attention. Lately, they have become so noisy it's intolerable! The oldest male is the worst. He used to talk and whistle preety tunes but not anymore! I'm not to sure what sex the younger ones are but I think they are females. Should I get rid of the oldest one? He drives everyone nuts! He tries to bite you if you put your hand in there but he will come up to the bars and loves to get his head scratched. I just can't tolerate the constant squaking! I'm going to go crazy. They do this especially from 8 a.m. till about 4 p.m. They get a large variety of food and treats and have plenty of interesting toys. HELP!!!!!!!!

I am having trouble with a kitten my grandmother bought me over the weekend.

He's a six week old gray male, with patches of white. He won't eat regularly. He didn't eat at all on Saturday, which is the day I got him, and it took me until last night to convince him to eat a little of his cat food, along with a little bit of warm turkey from a pot pie.

And now today he won't eat again!

Is it normal for a kitten new to a house not to eat?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. They are stupid, ugly dogs! I think people get them because they are insecure! If you want a guard dog, get a beautiful doberman or sheperd, atleast most of those won't attack little kids for no reason. As a very experienced dog trainer, I have worked with many. And they simply don't have the "brains" like some breeds like Aussies or Retrievers. And let's face it, they are ugly! Don't chew me out. I'm entitled to my own opinion. I just think we need to start making people who want to own them pay alot of money to license them and take them to obedience from a puppy and if there dog attacks someone for no reason, they should go to jail! I'm sure there are some nice ones out there but there are no smart ones and certainly no pretty ones!

I went home over the weekend and as my dad was getting our of his chair my kitten ran under it. She was crushed on the back of her neck. It was an accident, but when i got to her she wasn't breathing and she had pooped. I rubbed her stomach and blew in her moth. she bagan to breath. I then saw her left shoulder was a little disfigured, and since i am a paramedic i know enought o know is was dislocated, so i popped it back in place. She now shakes whenever she stads, and all she wants to do is lay on her left side in her bed. So hasn't eaten since and doesn't want to move around too much. She is breathing fine, and can walk, she just kinda goes at an angle now. The vet can't see her for over a week and i can't affoord the $700 emergency vet clinic cost. I am thinking she just has a bruise and is trying to recover from it. Do you think maybe she shakes from being traumatized by it? What do you think i should do for her?

I came home Saturday at 10 pm and when my outdoor cat (originally a stray) came to greet me, I noticed him limping. I have allowed him to stay inside for the past two nights, however his limp seems to be getting worse. I inspected his paw, and it appears to have two ulcers/sores that he has been licking. It looks like a little blood has dried around it. The wounds are directly above his paw joint,on the inside, and the joint itself is slightly swollen. He is avoiding putting pressure on that foot even when he is just sitting. He appears to be in some pain, as he is not as active, however, I am concerned about possible infection, and don't know what to look for. I live paycheck to paycheck, but I will bring him into the vet if I have to. Do I have to?

I could just strangle my male cat! EVERY morning around 4:30-5:00 AM, right before the alarm goes off, the stupid thing PUKES up cat food. Being 8 months pregnant, I DO NOT enjoy waking up to smelling hot, wet, already chewed cat food. He's driving me insane. He can't do it anywhere else but beside the bed.

How can I stop him from puking up catfood all the time? I thought about picking up the food at night before bed and putting it back in the morning. I have 2 cats...my other cat never does this..

Is there anyone that can give me any information on rectal prolapse. Using the symptons she has I spent the entire nite online looking for anything that could help me and my little baby out and it looks like rectal prolapse is the culprit. Can anyone please tell me how a pup so young could get this? Is it common or is it something I may have caused. I don't mean intentionally, my baby means the world to me and I would never, ever do her any harm. What are the treatment procedures, could it kill her? I live in a very small town and I'm waiting for my vet to open up but it won't be until around noon.

I first noticed it late in the day yesterday when it appeared she was trying to poop for long periods of time yet nothing but a yellow/brownish liquid would come out. When I checked her there was a tiny, reddish mass protruding from her rectom. It is very sensitive the the touch. She wasn't very active then, but this morning she's been playing with her toys. Can someone please help me...

I bred my St. Bernard boy dog with my friends female. My friend knows what she is doing because she has done a lot of research, but me on the other hand, I just know I had to get my male checked for health problems like Hip Displasia and stuff like that. (Please don't tell me that I need to do this and that because we have been to the vet and had both dogs checked and okayed for breeding! Both have pedagrees also!) My question is, While the female was in heat, she acceptede the male from the 26th of October to the 1st of November. She was still in heat for 3 days after the 3rd, but the male would not hump any more. Does this mean the female is Pregnant, or what does this mean?

Our neighbor's cat (about 1 yr old, very friendly) has started following us around our yard while we are working outside. It gets right under our feet, and has gotten stepped on accidently a few times, but that doesn't seem to discourage it at all! We have been carrying firewood into the shed, and the cat will suddenly jump in front of our feet. Sooner or later, it's going to get squashed.

Is this just a very dumb cat? Is there a way to teach it to stop this behavior? I'm beginning to feel like Old Mr. Johnson in that song 'The Cat Came Back'... the cat came back the very next day! The neighbors leave it outside all day (this is not going to change), and it has to walk 1.5 km. to get to our place, and still it comes back. I know it's looking for attention, and we do pat it, but we aren't interested in playing with the cat all day, either. Any comments and suggestions from those who understand cat psychology?
