I have a 3 year old lhasa apso, and I've found that it completely depends on what they're eating and how active they are.

We tried wet food, but we're pleased with the "end result," so we've used dry food for years. All of this is based on dry food.

If you're feeding Kibbles and Bits, Puppy Chow, or any type of food that has a lot of ingredients, your dog will eat upwards of two cups. I call this type of food the Apple Jacks of dog food. A lot of tasty stuff, but not very nutritious. It isn't very filling either.

Then there's the Kashi type of dog food: this stuff looks boring to eat and has only a few ingredients. Your dog won't eat as much of this because he'll get more nutrients in about a cup of this food than he will in two cups of the other stuff. It's heavier food, and the dog will feel fuller faster.

But if you pooch isn't getting the proper amount of exercise, he's going to eat even more because he's bored.

We have a lhasa apso (who just turned 3 last week) who eats about a cup and a half of eukanuba or iams dog food every morning. Sometimes we get the weight control kind, other times we get different flavors. It he is hungry, he'll eat the full amount, if he isn't he won't. He also gets various (usually 3-5) treats later in the day, depending on what he is doing.

Sometimes, if he is in one of his moods, he'll try not to eat the dog food and will want to fill up on treats all day. This really isn't good for them, and they'll end up gaining a lot of weight if they eat too many treats in place of the dog food. Keeping that in mind, lhasas do respond well to food as a reward for doing something, so you'll probably want to give your dog some treats throughout the day.
Just make sure that the treats and the food are healthy, and that he's getting a lot of time to play, and he shouldn't gain weight.

It all depends on what kind of food your serving (dry or canned) I feed my Lhasa twice daily with the canned food and I feed her 3/4 a can and maybe a treat or cow hide bone in between

depends on the kind of food you are feeding

lower quality foods have more filler so you need to feed more
better foods have no filler so you feed less (have less poops too)

so if your food is from grocery store or wal mart you need to feed more
if the food contains lots of corn and by-products you need to feed more

most foods have charts on the side... pick your dogs ideal weight and go with that guideline
