I have one that I have had for over 13 years, and is still going strong. I am expecting them to live for about 50 years. And I don't know how old mine was when i got her. You cannot count rings on a shell... they are not trees. You can only estimate, and sometimes that's wrong too. Unless you hatch them, I don't think you can ever really know EXACTLY how old the turtle is.
I think they can live longer than 50 years also, but I'm not sure how much longer.

With good care and a clean evnironment a box turtle would likely outlive you! Possibly 100+ years.

.I've heard 50 or 60 years in the wild. You can figure the age by basically counting rings like on a tree. Check out one of the sections on its top shell, its carapace. Count how many rings there are and that is the age of the box turtle

In captivity, they tend to live between 1 and 45 years- obviously, the kind of care they get makes a big difference!
In the wild, they can get to over 100 if they are lucky! 50 is probably a more common age.

i think average is about 60 yrs but there are turtles that lived
to be 80-90-100 yrs , they are like the tortoises
