Two things are possible, your dog COULD be jealous, or your dog could be showing signs of fear. If doggie is jealous, have some friends of the opposite sex help you retrain him by coming over with treats for him. Everytime the dog shows proper behavior toward the "date" have the "date" give the dog a treat, all the way from the door, to the sitting next to you on the couch, putting their arm around you.....uh, you might want to get a real date to take it from there. lol!
By the way, you are the one who decides what is proper behavior, not the dog. If you think proper behavior is sitting nicely on the floor, that's it. If you think it is snuggling with you and the date, you're the boss, although, you might have trouble getting a second date. Just remember, you decide, NOT the dog.
If the dog is showing fear, your vet or a trainer would be your best bet to talk to. You want to avoid fear aggression, so it is a good idea to let a professional handle that one.

You can give him something else to do, such as chew a rawhide or treat-stuffed Kong toy while he lies on his bed. If he won't stop trying to get in the middle, put him in another room.
Unfortunately, the best way to teach him to not want to get involved would involve your date, and that suggestion may not go over so well. He is bugging you because he wants you all to himself. Ideally, when he starts to do whatever he does, you should get up and walk out of the room, closing a door behind you. With repetition your dog should figure out that his actions are yielding the opposite effect - they drive you away rather than keep you with him. For this to work, you would need to give him attention when he is doing something on his own - again, you are likely otherwise occupied and not really able to do this. Management (the first suggestion) is probably going to be easiest to do.

Our dog does the same thing. Even when my husband and I sit down next to each other, the dog has to come crawl up and try to sit between us or on our laps. I think it is a mix of jealously and the dog not wanting to miss out on anything. Try putting him in another room for awhile. Good luck!

better socialization is the key - take the dog to Obedience lessons and when you have a date over have the dog "sit" and "stay" or "down" and "stay".. after a few times of this the dog will get the message that it is not allowed to interfeer with what is going on...
it will learn that YOU are the boss.. not it.. it will focus on YOU for instuction..

introduce him to ur date. i have a cat the same way. it takes her a bit to get warmed up to boyfriends or ppl that come over. it just takes her time and getting used to the person. she love my boyfriend now....sleeps in the bed with us sometimes snuggled up next to him. but ur dog might be trying to protect u too...
