Is there anyone that can give me any information on rectal prolapse. Using the symptons she has I spent the entire nite online looking for anything that could help me and my little baby out and it looks like rectal prolapse is the culprit. Can anyone please tell me how a pup so young could get this? Is it common or is it something I may have caused. I don't mean intentionally, my baby means the world to me and I would never, ever do her any harm. What are the treatment procedures, could it kill her? I live in a very small town and I'm waiting for my vet to open up but it won't be until around noon.

I first noticed it late in the day yesterday when it appeared she was trying to poop for long periods of time yet nothing but a yellow/brownish liquid would come out. When I checked her there was a tiny, reddish mass protruding from her rectom. It is very sensitive the the touch. She wasn't very active then, but this morning she's been playing with her toys. Can someone please help me...

Oh yeah, would it be okay if I put some Preperation H on the area. That may give her a small amount of relief. I know is a very long question, actually there is many questions within what is supposed to be just one but I'm at a loss as to what I should do. This baby means everything to me and she is exactly that to me, my baby. Most of you will probably laugh and think "what a total whacko this chick is." Please, laugh all you want and think what you want, but this whacky chick is in desperate need of your answers and your help...

One last thing...there is also a precious little 4 yr. old boy that expects his pup, "Carrie" to meet him at the door with her tail wagging & full of kisses just for him when he picks her up. He expects this EVERYTIME he walks through Mimi's door... So, please help me make sure his little heart doesn't get broken... If you can, then it comes from my heart when I tell you, that you've given 2 people and our baby, the ulitmate Christmas gift...thanx guys

This is to "torbaynewfs"...do you ever actually read the question before you go off on of your rants when you answer someone...I'm assuming you don't since it clearly states that I live in a very small town and I'm waiting for the vet to open at noon. This pup is still with it's mom because it's mom lives with me as will this pup for the rest of our lives...with that being said, as soon as I post this I'm going to see if there is a way to block certain people from answering your questions. You've answered my questions in the past and you never have any helpful information you just throwout insults and question my love or my dogs. After some checking I see that I'm not the only one you do this to. It there is no way to block you, then I'm asking you now to please refrain from ever answering another question I might have in the future. Please save your hateful, cruel and mean spirited answers for someone else because me and my babies can do without them.

Do not put anything on it. NOTHING!! Get it to the vet ASAP. It is susally caused by diarrhea. Has the puppy had diarrhea????
Has it been wormed??????? Has it had vaccines????

The puppy REALLY needs to see the vet!!!
Puppies this age should still be with the mom and littermates, so they are very susceptible to problems.

DID you say the dog was with the mom??? NO. I saw that you said the vet was not opened. Clearly, you are cheap and do not want to call the emergency number....all vets provide EMERGENCY service. Wonder what for?????????????????
If you were so concerned about you puppy and the "little 4 year old boy" that would be upset if something happened to it, THEN CALL THE VET!!!!!!!!! You don't have to wait till noon...that is YOUR CHOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sure Prep H is the answer!!!!

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also notice you have not told us all if the puppy has had diarrhea, been wormed, and had vaccines..........wonder why that is.
Tried to help you, but there is not enough info and there is just NO helping some people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAN!!! You must be like "Sybil" or something!!! I have not answered that many of you questions al all, and TWO were even best answer...judged that by YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I have no clue what you are talking about!!!
I tried to help you!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fact still remains...you have not tried calling the emergency number for the vet. You are the one waiting. No one elses problem at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A rectal prolapse is the extrusion (pushing out) of the inner layers of the rectum through the anus. It is often a result of straining to defecate, urinate, or give birth. Diseases causing straining in the puppy, such as constipation, parasites, or diarrhea, may cause a displacement or protrusion of the rectum. Dogs straining to urinate because of urinary infections or other urinary disease may cause the rectum to prolapse. The condition may also occur in a female dog during a difficult birth. The rectum will appear as a reddened "sausage-like" protrusion from the anus. The prolapsed rectum may extend two to several inches from the body.

What are the symptoms?

A visual inspection and notation of a reddened 'sausage or doughnut-like' mass protruding from the anus provides a diagnosis of rectal prolapse.

What are the risks?

Left untreated, a dog will be unable to eliminate stool from the anus. As a result, severe illness will develop, followed within several days, by death. The extruded portion of the anus can also be abraded or injured.

What is the management?

It is of paramount importance to identify the underlying cause of a rectal prolapse. Does the dog have diarrhea or constipation, and if so, why? These problems, if present, must be corrected. Many cases of rectal prolapse can be manually replaced. Sutures may need to be placed into the anus to restrict the anal opening and prevent another prolapse. In severe instances in which the prolapsed rectal tissue become traumatized, the damaged rectal tissue may need to be surgically repaired or removed by a veterinarian.

This is from the site listed below. I'm sure that the veterinarian will be able to take care of this for you because it sounds like you caught it very early. Good luck to you both.

Firstly i feel it is excellent that you just took in this rescue cat regardless of it is issues. However, this is a 'unique' meals nutrition for the reason that that is what he demands and it is probably not secure for him so that you can modify his nutrition or present choices. I could cell your out of hours vet train and provide an explanation for that you want extra meals or touch a cat safe haven who will have a few in inventory. As for the fowl flavour youngster meals - it can be costly however alas that's one of the most drawbacks of taking over pets, chiefly the ones with meical headaches. wish you get whatever,
