I bred my St. Bernard boy dog with my friends female. My friend knows what she is doing because she has done a lot of research, but me on the other hand, I just know I had to get my male checked for health problems like Hip Displasia and stuff like that. (Please don't tell me that I need to do this and that because we have been to the vet and had both dogs checked and okayed for breeding! Both have pedagrees also!) My question is, While the female was in heat, she acceptede the male from the 26th of October to the 1st of November. She was still in heat for 3 days after the 3rd, but the male would not hump any more. Does this mean the female is Pregnant, or what does this mean?

One thing everyone has to understand about my question is, I asked a simple question, and most people who have answered it have been nice and helpful, but come on, I can't understand why you have to crizisize me for breeding my dog. We did not have a "backyard" breeding as someone called it. It has been planned out by us and "the vet" for 9 months now. The male stopped humping 4 days before the female went out of heat, so I was wondering if this was a sign of pregnancy, you know, because the male normally tried to get it when ever he could, but just out of nowhere he stopped humping 4 days before she went out of heat. Is that easier to understand?!?

Yes, she is pregnant. Females won't stand for males the entire length of their cycle, nor can they be bred the entire time.

You don't just go to the vet and "get the dog checked" for breeding soundness.
Pedigrees also mean nothing. Any crap dog can have a pedigree. It shows who the parents and grandparents are and so on. EVERY dog came from other dogs. This means NOTHING!! Judging from the way you state things, it is a backyard breeding done with uncleared dogs.

No one can tell you if the female is pregnant...except the VET!!!!
A female will eventually go out of heat, pregnant or not. Why don't you all get the girl to the vet for a blood test. Ask about an ultrasound also!!!

1. Get a new vet
2. You ARE a backyard breeder. Anyone who calls it "humping"
is a backyard breeder.

3. Just because you PLAN a breeding, does not mean it is not a
backyard breeding. You do not know enough about breeding
to be a good breeder.

Your male dogs sperm can live up to a week after mating, so yes I would say she is pregnant. I've heard a good tie really helps in the pregnancy process also.

Okay, going to venture a guess. I don't know how old your male is, if he is too young he could have ruptured himself. Take him to the vet. If you didn't feed him correctly he wore himself out.
Ain't breeding dogs fun??
