I went home over the weekend and as my dad was getting our of his chair my kitten ran under it. She was crushed on the back of her neck. It was an accident, but when i got to her she wasn't breathing and she had pooped. I rubbed her stomach and blew in her moth. she bagan to breath. I then saw her left shoulder was a little disfigured, and since i am a paramedic i know enought o know is was dislocated, so i popped it back in place. She now shakes whenever she stads, and all she wants to do is lay on her left side in her bed. So hasn't eaten since and doesn't want to move around too much. She is breathing fine, and can walk, she just kinda goes at an angle now. The vet can't see her for over a week and i can't affoord the $700 emergency vet clinic cost. I am thinking she just has a bruise and is trying to recover from it. Do you think maybe she shakes from being traumatized by it? What do you think i should do for her?

So you all know, I am going to be seen by the Vet at 7 am tomorrow. The vet assistant took a look at her and said it seems like just a bruise, and she is just in pain. She gave her some pain meds and set up an appointment with the doc for tomorrow morning. She said she will be ok, and don't assume nerve damage right away.

I think you know this is very serious and she must be x-rayed to see what damage was done. It does not sound good. I can't imagine a vet who would make you wait on this. Mine don't work after hours and I may have to use an emergency vet (I have six cats) on weekends or at night. My vets are always booked and if something like this happened they would tell me just to bring the kitten in and they would work it in their schedule.

Please call around and find a vet to look at her today. You can get a bottle of Rescue Remedy from a health food store today. Shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on her fur between her ears as many times as you can - even if you are on the way to a vet. This will help her a great deal with shock and trauma of the accident and cannot harm her in any way. It will definitely ease her suffering.

As you know many neurological issues resolve themselves with time and you must not let her suffer if the damage is irreparable. She probably does not need to eat right now and in the next few days feed her from your finger with some stage one Gerber baby food - chicken or turkey is best. That will have NO onion or garlic in it and is safe for her.

I am so sorry this has happened. Your dad must feel terrible and accidents do happen. I hope she can recover.

Well, I don't think that they will kill the new kittens. Basically, it's a dominance factor. Whomever is the eldest, and male will end up being the dominant one of the 'pack'. Now, as for new kittens; your older kittens won't like them. They may even be slightly hostile towards them. Though, that is perfectly normal for them to do. After about a week or so, all the cats should be working fine with one another. Though, sometimes some cats take longer to adapt than others. It honestly just depends. But for consolation on violence, I have 11 cata, all of which are different ages, and each time I introduced one cat the older cats would hate the new cat. Never did they ever really harm the new cat, though. :)

If your vet won't see her for a week, then call a different vet, explain the situation. Most all vets make room in their scheduling for an emergency patient.
I have had animals that were in need of care right away, and never has my vet turned me down or said wait a week. If that was my vet, I would be finding a new vet, one who knew there are exceptions that have to be made if one of their patients is injured or sick / ill.

shes probably shaking because shes in pain. Poor thing. i totaly understand you not being able to afford the $700 for the emergency vet just try and make her as comfortable as you possible can given your circumstances. A week is a long time but if thats the best you can honestly do then what else is left. i wish you and your kitten the best. i really hope she ok. good luck

OHMIGOSH! You need to call another vet that will take her right away. Please do not wait. She may have spinal/nerve damage. I know you are worried and trying to find some solace on here but seriously, the only way you are going to get that is by having her examined by a professional. That poor kitten could be in such severe pain. It's unfair to let her suffer. Find another vet; even if it means driving for 5 hours...5 hours of waiting is better than 5 days. Please, please, please visit a vet right away. I'm almost shocked that your vet wouldn't treat her immediately given the circumstances. Good luck.

Update - I'm so relieved for your kitty! I'm very happy to hear the vet will see her immediately. Keep us posted! Lot's of kitty lovers on here! :-)

Have you tryed calling another vet office. My vet would see any of my animals in an emergency situation as long as they were open. I'll bet it a muscle thing like a sprain from the dislocation. You know like back spasms. Would your vet call in a muscle relaxer. I hope that she doesn't have internal injuries. I'll pray too.

Find another vet who can take you...or how about a vet school even?? The poor thing sounds like she has serious trauma. Put the $700 on a credit card if you have too....please don't let her suffer!

Oh my gosh, that sounds like neurological damage, something must have happened to her spine! Something like that happened to our iguana when he had a stroke, he went into a coma for a few days and when he came out of it, he wouldn't eat and would tilt to one side. We've had to hand feed him since and he's recovered some of his motor skills, but still tilts. Make sure she eats and get her to the vet as soon as possible! She might need special care for the rest of her life if her spine was damaged, I'm so sorry.

Try and wait out the week, or try a new vet that has a sooner opening. But, if it gets worse, bite the bullet and get her to the ER vet. It could be neurological.

Do you only have one vet in your area? Find another vet that can see her earlier. Tell them that she is not eating... they may be able to get her in sooner.

I am sorry about your kitty. Just try to give it as much comfort as possible. You already did do a lot for her... you saved her life... now you just have to help her recover.
