This is not meant to be a crude question, but we were talking about sexual imprinting today in class (an animal makes a social attachment to another animal, and thus thinks it can mate with that animal, no matter what species either animal is), and it got me thinking.

When a dog attempts to mate with a human, is that a product of sexual imprinting, since the dog has been raised around humans? or is it just dog dominance behavior - the dominant pack member copulating with the subordinate pack member (i.e. humans) to establish his dominance?

Serious answers only, please! I am repeating this question in the Dog section only to hopefully get more variety in answers.

My dog's (female) wee is burning patches of my garden. I have tried adding tomato ketchup to her food, but this hasn't made any difference...does anyone know of any other remedies?????

I adopted an older dog (8 years old), that had been abandoned, from a local shelter a few weeks ago. He licks his paws, especially in between the pads (somewhat raw now), his fur is oilly, and has an odd "dog" smell (I've had 3 other dogs and never noticed it this bad) and scratches alot. I bathed him and have had him professionally groomed. I took him to the vet to find out what could be wrong, allergy, etc. He got a steroid injection and was put on antibiotics. He still smells and is still licking his paws. What could it be? I can't afford blood tests, and expensive meds for him. I just want to make him comfortable.

i have been breeding guppies for allmost a year now, i use to move the females form my comunaty tank to my nursery tank to give birth but this meant that i could only have to waite untill the fry were big enough to go to the shop, or my big tank if i kept a few unill i could put another pregnant female in. because of this i decieded to get a fish breeder but i am haveing troble with it.
when i put the pregnant female in, i only get one or two babys in the bottom or when i check on them the female is no longer pregnant and i have no babies so i assume she ate them befor they fell through to the bottom. i have read the instructions and im following them to the letter with no results.
so could any ony who has used breeders befor please give me some advise.

I have a 12 year old collie/shephard mix who gets along well with other animals. I was walking her this morning, holding the leash in my left hand, like I always do. Suddenly a large black dog at least as big as my dog attacked us from my right. It just ran up to us snarling and leaped toward us. My dog got between us. Then the black dog attacked her and wouldn't stop. There was no provacation. I tried to go around and pull the other dog off or kick him or something, but my dog insisted on staying between us. I couldn't come close to the other dog. Finally, someone came out of her house and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know ayone was out here." I told her to call off her dog or I would report it to the police. Finally, she called "Blackie" and the dog eventually went to her, but came right back and started biting my dog again. I threatened a lawsuit and she finally got her dog to come inside her fence.

Question? How could we have gotten away if the owner hadn't come out

My husband's Desert King snake died in the middle of the night and she was on her back. I couldn't find any info when I googled it. She also had never bit anyone, but twice in the last 2 months she bit my husband. Was this a sign that she was getting ready to die? He had her for about 15 years, and she was over 40 years old (she was 2 feet longer than they usually get)

I am having a problem with stray cats in my side yard. I have a tan bark pathway and they think it is a litter box.

I was thinking of pouring either vinegar or ammonia on the bark. Which one do you think cats hate the most?

I have already tried the sprays you find at the stores to keep them away but it isn't working that is why I thought I'd try doing this. What do you think?

My dog stuck his nose on the other side of the neighborhood fence while I was walking him and the other dog bit him on the nose. Lots of blood and the owner says he will split half of the vet. expense. Both of our dogs don't have rabies, but is it my responsibility to report the incident to animal patrol?
