brush your guinea pig with a soft slicker type brush, if it is a long haired one use a comb and gently pick out the matts

Shave it. I keep all of my long haired pigs (silkies and peruvians) shaved when they are not being shown. Not shaved down the skin but to about an inch in length. I got a cheap beard trimmer at Wal Mart for like $9 that has attachment for length.

They will have to be cut out. It usually takes 2 people if your new at it, as to not cut the skin. I have some that get mats if I don't keep them trimmed.

If brushing doesn't work, if they are too close to the skin, you might have to clip them out. After they ae out, be sure to brush it regularly.
