Probably, the determining factor will be how much time you spent bonding with him during the 7 months you had him.
More than likely one lick of your hand and he will recognize your smell.

Good chance, as your pattern was embedded into the dogs mind. Your concern should to be aware that if they treated him bad in anyway...he will have behavioral problems. So, you should be cautious and remember he is still a dog. --- I've seen time and time again people go "He is just a dog, my dog is a good boy he wouldn't hurt anyone" Then the dog proceeds to rip the face of their toddler and the owners act all surprise "not are fluffy". It is unfortunate that your bonding and raising of the dog was interfered with...but as a responsible owner -- Find help working with and training the dog if you get him back. Sorry, I hate sounding like I am lecturing, but if you never had to pull a so called "good pup" of a mauled child, you might think different or see a neighbor get his arm ripped off by a "good doggie" that was allowed to run free and approached the neighbor from behind - you just might view animals with respect and not plain dumb ignorance. Good luck and educate yourself.

yes, your dog will remeber you. Animals never forget there owner. We took my chi. back to the breeders after owning her for a year and she still remembered them. she went to where her favorite blanket used to be kept and curled up. Dogs have good smell and that is how most remember. So once your dog smells you all his memorys will rush back and he will run to you. If he is within a mile of your house he can find you. Dogs are smart and seem to know who there real owners are. keep hope... I did and i was reunited with my puppy.

Dogs live in the present. They have no concept of the past. At a year old your dog should respond to you in happy gestures but its not because he knows who you are.

Dogs do become conditioned to respond to certain stimuli but its not a memory. Abused dogs I like to work with for about a month to recondition their response to my hands or other aggressive movements.

Yes, he will without a doubt...He'll remember your voice and your smell...dogs don't forget! The dogs from the kennel where I used to work still remember me after almost 2 yrs..When I run into them at the dog park they run to me like it was yesterday...all of them..so don't worry, he will know you right away!

He will probably remember you. Dogs have a good memory for their owner's scent, and puppies tend to remember those who bonded with them.

We had friends who adopted a black Lab mix puppy. We were Sneaker's special buddies when she was little, but then her owners had to move.

We didn't get to see our friends for over five years, and I wondered if she'd remember us. We got out of the car, and she walked down the driveway, hackles raised. . .until the wind shifted. Then she started yipping and yapping and dancing and prancing until the neighbors even came out to see what was going on.

With a perfectly straight face, my husband said, "I think she remembers us."

Maybe but not immediately! It may take a few days depending on what activities he had been doing for 5 months! Go Slow!

The dog may recognize you. Quick story: my grandfather was gone for 2 years during WWII fighting. When he came home the only one who recognized him was the dog!
