We have a young (9 month old) Female toy fox terrier. Can anyone tell me when their heat cycles will start? And is it safe to breed her after the first one?

As I was taking my daughter to preschool today when I saw a man parked in the middle of the street stomping on something then kicking it into a ditch on the side of the road. I was stopped at a red light about a block away. He said something to someone in a car coming from the other direction, got in his truck and left. As I was driving by I thought I saw a little black puppy stand up then fall over in the ditch, I instanty felt sick to my stomach. I tried to get his license plate number but he was to far ahead. I took my daughter on to school, she is 4 and I didn't want her to see anything. When I arrived back at work I called the business that this happened in front of to let them know. I CANT GET THE IMAGE OUT OF MY HEAD!

I'm scared to let my little guy play with them yet! He's really young, still being bottle fed and starting to eat a little dry food when i moisten it in warm water. Will catnip affect his growth or personality if he gets exposed to it? thank you so much I appreciate any info on catnip.

i have siamese cat she around 10 mos old now. all she does is eat and eat, she will go to sleep and wakes up and go directly to the bowl and eat, then after eating she will play roughly with my other cat.. after a while she will vomit.. is it coz she plays after she eats thats why she vomits or is there any other reason aside from that? she seems normal and everythings fine with her.. i dont know really, you might give me some info..

My father-in-law has been hospitalized and left his dog with me. I have serious concerns about this, but knowing the situation, didn't have the heart to say no. The dog is a 12 year old Chow and I am worried that she is too old to adjust to a new environment. I already have my own dog (a Dachshund) and the Chow's temperment is so bad that I am afraid to leave them alone together. Does anyone know any tips to help an old dog adjust to a new home and help it get along with another dog?

I was mislead into getting a "pit bull" mix (told boxer/lab). I got it for a companion for my lab/rottweiler mix, who just has rust coloring, but a small lab confirmation. Everything i have read has made me leary of even keeping the dog. I want them to be able to be outside in the yard together while im at work. I have a .5 acre yard, and they play well together now. He is 10 weeks old and they have been together since he was 6 weeks. Any advise?

Does anyone else think this is stupid? We have a Staffordshire Terrier, which is a very large breed pitbull, and our homeowners insurance said we have to get rid of him or they will cancel our policy! They said he is on a list of unnacceptable breeds of dogs. Yes, they do have a bad rap to being biters, but that's like saying, "No, you can't adopt that Iraqi chid because it might grow up and someday be a terrorist." And all dogs will bite. There are reported cases of labs killing people, along with all those other "people-friendly" dogs. I think it is stupid that they are being breed specific. They should base it on the individual dog.

Is it possible for my hamster to get fleas from my dog even though my dog can't even get her nose in the cage. My dog is a Dachsund mixed Cocker Spaniel and my hamsters cage is up about 2 and a half feet.(My dog does have fleas) But when my dog stands she can look in the cage but can't even get her nose in there. So is it possible for my Hamster to get fleas that way? ...............If you read my other question about "my Hamster keeps itching" this question is sort of a add on to that question.

I have a cat. Well...she sorta just showed up on my verandah one day so I kinda adopted her. But now I am a bit worried. She was real small when she came, and she seems to have grown. But now she looks the same way to me. I've been feeding her regularly and she drinks mil and all but she just isn't getting any bigger or heavier. And she's always crying or meowing....even right after she eats she does it. She's very playful and it doesn't seem like she's sick, plus she's always sucking the bathroom rug. Y'know the real fuzzy ones....What does it all mean and what should I do to make her life better if she's miserable???

I have a 5 month old wheaten terrier who just discovered the dog park in our part of town. I was so excited because she LOVEs to socialize w/ other dogs. Everytime she approaches another dog she gets down on her belly or rolls over on her back to show she's friendly. However, I've discovered that many other dogs return this friendly gester by jumping on her or pinning her to the grownd w/ their teeth. Okay, I was a little freaked out by this but the other more experienced dog owners at the park said this was normal dog behavior and that my dog will learn to assert herself. (Not sure I want this type of assertion.) They also said that once their dogs get the agression out of there system at the park, they behave better at home. So my question...Is this acceptable dog behavior?

I mean obviously when you find black specks on your cat or dog it says they have some fleas and I know it is blood, but blood from where? Is it from the flea or the pet?

The bathroom is right inside the entryway, so that's not a good place for it, and the kitchen, bedroom and living room don't seem appropriate.

I have two cats, and for quite awhile I was using Arm and Hammer, but I think that they have changed their formula. It does not keep the odor away....although, I do scoop, every day. Thank-you!!
