The bathroom is right inside the entryway, so that's not a good place for it, and the kitchen, bedroom and living room don't seem appropriate.

the bathroom still seems like the most logical place for it and if you use scoopable litter and clean it daily, change and wash it weekly it seems to keep odors at a minimum. when i lived in a one bedroom place my bathroom was too tiny for the box so i got one of the litterboxs that comes with a lid and put a pretty lacy piece of material over it and put some potted plants on it and kept in a corner in the living room, no one seemed to notice it was a cat box. hope this helped.

Sounds like the bedroom closet would be best from your description of the apartment. You probably wouldn't be able to have it in the "efficiency" kitchen you must have.
I have found that Zero Odor which is a spray is effective in eliminating odors. You can order that at www.zeroodor.com. World's Best Cat Litter is truly the best though the most expensive. I have zero urine odor when using it. It is corn and environmentally friendly. I don't have to completely empty and clean boxes hardly at all -- sometimes a little poopy gets on the side of a box and then I wash it. I just scoop the box and add another scoop of the litter.
What you put in the cat will effect the odor from the box. Don't use inexpensive grocery store foods that are 2/3 corn. Really makes for stinky poops because the corn is undigestible for the cat and you will have a lot of "waste" coming out the other end.

Your apartment sounds a lot like mine! I have two litter boxes in my space for my two cats. One is kept in the bathroom under the sink and the other is kept in a little "nook" under one of the counters in my kitchen. Both of the litter boxes are covered. I feed my cats on the counter to avoid having the food dishes close to the litter boxes. Make sure to clean the boxes either daily or every other day to avoid odors. It's a lot of work keeping up with only two litter boxes for two cats in such a small space but well worth the love and entertainment I get back from it! Good luck.

If you don't have any type of closet that the door can be cracked, then maybe hide it behind a TV stand, couch or chair. Or if you are creative, hide it in a trunk or enclosed table, cut and area out of the back for the cat to enter/exit. Might ruin the table, but would allow you to still have a snazzy looking apartment.
P.S. Tidy cat now makes a litter called small spaces and works great! I feel for you girlfriend! Good luck.

Any room is a good choice as long as the cat can access it anytime it needs to. You also should have one more pan than the number of cats. If you scoop the box daily, that will reduce odors (and make kitty happy). You can also get an odor neutralizer for the room to help your nose cope with any lingering odors. The fact is, pets do produce odors...no matter how clean we keep their space. The only way to avoid it is to not have pets.

you do not might want to sleep interior the front room. attempt to detect a spacious one mattress room condominium and also you've a mattress for you, a small crib for the toddler and a small toddler mattress on your toddler. it truly is totally conceivable. in reality you received't honestly want a crib and a toddler mattress by surprise rapidly, the toddler can sleep in a bassinet which takes up plenty a lot less area (in spite of the reality that there are small and area powerful cribs available too). You do what you may want to do and also you're making it artwork. Dont' experience undesirable about it, it truly is going to all come at the same time.

I would keep it in the bathroom. Just remember to clean it the heat from the shower will make it stink more. And you would not wont to have company over and use the bathroom with a stinky litter box in there. :)

where ever there is room for it, we have a large kitchen and 3 small rooms and a living room so we put it in the kitchen works best there for us. pick a spot that isn't in a high traffic area preferably not on carpet, makes cleaning up much easier. once you got your spot don't move it.

You know, I live in an apartement, and I was wondering the same thing. I guess the closet sounds like the best answer so far, but you would have to keep it really clean.

bathroom is the best bet, but any secluded place would work, as long as its not near the cat's dishes. I used to keep the littr box in a closet with the door open a bit.
