It sounds like your puppy is testing you right now. First off you need to realize that he is a terrier - they can be very demanding and sometimes quite yappy. Nonetheless, it sounds like he is probably testing his boundaries to see how far he can go - and if he can win out - becoming the domonant party between you and him. You want to make sure that you remain "top dog", so it is best that you do not continually give in to his demands. Not that I am saying that you should stop playing with your dog, you just need to be the one to initiaite the play. You need to designate a time when you go and get one of his toys and you begin playing with him. When he comes to you with a toy and "demands" that you play with him, as hard as it may be, it would be best if you just ignore it for the purpose of training. The yapping will subside (I promise) and eventually he will become less and less demanding. Hopefully he will get to the point where he can come to you to initiate play, but will not become so insistant with you if you chose not to play with him. Good luck!

First of all, you have a very intelligent dog so it take more work than if you had a not so smart dog. Yorkies will try to run the house if you let them. The only way to combat your dogs behavior is by consistently ignoring the dog and coming up with a phrase that he will understand that means 'we will play later'? I assume that he is winning at times with the barking so that reinforces the barking. Change that and your dog will stop barking. You can also seup a daily time to play that fits with your schedule and get your dog accustomed to the new schedule.

You know...I get a major attitude when I don't get what I want either. When people look at me and say "no" not going to happen, leave me alone, I retreat to my room and lay down. I think that might work for your yorkie. Just tell her no and walk away.

Good luck

Your dog is the boss and every time you give into the dog it reinforces this behavior. You must be a firm but fair leader. Going to obedience classes will help establish you as the leader and teach you how to train your dog the correct way

You need to ignore him and not give in. Play with him only on your terms. He needs to see that you are the alpha. This is ESPECIALLY important with small dogs...they are often babied, under trained, and become holy terrors. Get a good book on dog behavior (Dog Whisperer, How to be your dog's best friend are good ones) or talk to a trainer/behaviorist ASAP!

My yorkie puppy is bad with that too... try playing with him when he is quiet and ignor him when he barks, then eventually he'll learn that when he's quiet he get's more attention than when he barks.
