I have a cat. Well...she sorta just showed up on my verandah one day so I kinda adopted her. But now I am a bit worried. She was real small when she came, and she seems to have grown. But now she looks the same way to me. I've been feeding her regularly and she drinks mil and all but she just isn't getting any bigger or heavier. And she's always crying or meowing....even right after she eats she does it. She's very playful and it doesn't seem like she's sick, plus she's always sucking the bathroom rug. Y'know the real fuzzy ones....What does it all mean and what should I do to make her life better if she's miserable???

You need to go to the pet store and buy some worm medicine.
If your cat is not gaining any weight and she is eating she has worms!! Once you start her on the deworming medicine you may see them(dead) in the poo. That is normal! it means it is working!! Cats that eat and are hungry right after, have worms! The worms eat the kitties food from her tummy, that is why she is hungry all the time and never gains weight!
Well, I hope I have helped you! Good luck and god bless!
P.S, your kitty sucking on the bathroom rug, is called nesting syndrome. It happens to cats when they are taken away from there mothers to early,it is normal behavior for them and will pass with some time, no worries!! She is doing it because she is searching for a nipple. you may even notice her doing it to your hair! It makes her feel secure and safe(like a little kid with a dirty blankie) she will out grow it!! :)

I can say milk isn't good for cats, I was told by a vet once that it can actually cause worms, the pet store will sell specially formulated milk for kittens. But if she is eating regular hard food, she will get her nutrition from that and should not be drinking any kind of milk at all. The sucking on the bathroom rug is due to it being weaned from it's mother too soon. The crying may be communication, but doubtfully a sick call, cats normally show no emotion when sick. She's just talking to you is all. Since she is a stray, I would definitely take her for a physical and make sure she is healthy and safe to keep in your home. Good luck, your a wonderful person for taking her in, she will love you for life!

Some cats just talk alot. You can tell when you cat isn't feeling well, they lay around more than normal and usually distance themselves. If she is playing and nursing on rugs, I would say she is fine. It never hurts to take her in for a checkup. If she has worms it could be why she cries alot, even after eating...usually they are feeding the worms and not getting the nutrition they need...just a little shot will do the trick.

Has she been to the vet at all? She should be checked for worms since she lived outside for a while. If it is a kitten, under a year, that definitely should be done.

If you are feeding her inexpensive grocery store food she may be hungry! Corn does nothing for a cat and only provides calories and zero nutrition. Cats need meat protein to grow and thrive. Please try some good canned stuff with her and if you must use dry get the premium brands of that too. CA Natural is good, so is Natural Balance and Nature's Variety (Prairie). Try some of that with her. To switch dry foods click on my name at the icon for a "recipe" for doing this. It is important to go gradually to prevent tummy upsets or diarrhea.

She is very lucky to have you as her care-giver. Give her the same quality food you give yourself and your family. Cheap is not better in terms of her long-term health.

Some cats are more vocal. Mine talk to me all the time. One will follow me around in the morning meowing at me till I give him love. The other will follow me meowing till I give him fresh water. And some really like to suck on odd things, my dog used to do that so I know that some pets just do.

As for the not growing, some cats are REALY tiny. My youngest cat looks like a mamoth compared to the neighborhood outdoor cat that comes to love on me when I am B Q out front. And she is fully grown but she is just small.

You cat is probably fine, just keep playing with her and make sure and giver her lots of love. They like lots of love.

Have you had her checked for worms? If not I would advise that you do that as soon as possible. whip worms and hook worms are not visible. to the naked eye, tape worms are and look like rice and can be seen on the behind they will eat all the nutrients the cat is eating. Over the counter worm medications are effective for some worms but not all. it is best to take the cat to a vet and have the stool tested.

Also make sure it is vaccinated. You may want to go as far as testing for feline leukemia.

A vet is your best bet to make sure you are giving her the best care possible.

if your really worried take her to the vet..but in my experience (i have 4 kitties) some kitties are just very talkative..she's just telling you about her day.

although sucking on the bathroom rug may not be a good thing..she'll get fuzzies in her stomach a may cause her to hurl up furballs..lol...thats not pleasant for you or her.

it doesn't sound like she's miserable though it just sounds like you got a kitty that likes to chat with you. if you talk back to her..ie: say her name..or hi..or something guaranteed she'll meow more to you.

Good luck!

and your a great person for adopting her like that! :)

Some cats meow more than others and some cats never get very big. It probably would be wise to get her a vet exam and voice your concerns.
Cats especially young ones will knead and suck on things because they miss their mommy.

my 2 year old cat had worms but didn't show any signs of feeling bad. She just became thinner. the over the counter medicine you get at places like walmart will work fine. Btw, they don't have to go outside to contract worms.

Your cat probably has worms and it's not a big deal. Also, make sure she has her shots. So, my advice is take her to the Vet for shots, and while she's there, they will do a test and determine the type she has, and probably will give her an injection. Be sure and keep up the booster shots. She will have to be neutered at about 6 months of age.
