How hard would it be to get them to be friendlier, or are they too old to socialize? Not sure if I want to take this on - what's your opinion?

Also, if you do raise bees? What species and so-forth do you have?

Are honeybees becoming resistant to the mites now?

I have this great dog I got from the pound and I don't know what he is. Even though he doesn't have papers it would be nice to tell people what I think he is.

We're giving up our 2 dogs for adoption. Can anyone recommend a good animal rescue/adoption shelter/center place with the longest staying time (time available for adoption until they have to be put to sleep)? We live in Modesto, CA so somewhere in central CA is ideal.

I don’t use the word “pet.” I think it’s speciesist language. I prefer “companion animal.” For one thing, we would NO LONGER ALLOW BREEDING.. People could not create different breeds. There would be no pet shops. If people had companion animals in their homes, those animals would have to be refugees from the animal shelters and the streets. You would have a protective relationship with them just as you would with an orphaned child. But as the surplus of cats and dogs (artificially engineered by centuries of forced breeding) declined, eventually companion animals would be phased out, and we would return to a more symbiotic relationship – enjoyment at a distance — Ingrid Newkirk, PETA’s President, quoted in The Harper’s Forum Book, Jack Hitt, ed., 1989, p.223. “
I coudl not belive this when I read it. This woman is nuts and so is PETA

Advantage type products just freak me out. I'm not comfortable putting pesticides directly on my pets. Are there any alternative products out there that work?

we just got a golden retriver puppy today and 6mth ago we lost our belovide golden retriver of 9 yrs to cancer and liver faliure. Now my parents decided they wanted a puppy since ill be out of the house and off to college in a few year and i just told them my feelings of not wanting the puppy, But they got him anyways but told me to ignore him if i like and that i have no responsabitiy since i didnt want him i dont have to partake in the care either. but i feel wrong to ignore him becasue its not his fault. But now i dont know what to do with myself 'casue i find that i cry alot about the loss of my previous retriever and dont know exactly why i dont want him. if someone could give me advice on what to do in this situation that would be a big help so i dont have to keep asking my self

What do i do 'casue i dont want this puppy while every one eles does?

i own 15 animals:
3 horses
2 mini goats
2 parrots
5 chickens and 3 dogs(soon to be 4)
they are all well taken care of and have plenty of food, water and shelter and see the vet regularly. some of the things i hear that people do to animals just makes me want to beat them with a 2x4. then they would find out how it feels to be abused for no reason. am i wrong for feeling this way? (i don't think so)

When he finishes eating, he soils his dish, as in uses it as a bathroom. Is he sick? Is it a territorial thing? It's annoying and disgusting. I'm not familiar with this behavior. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My approx. 6 month old kitten wakes me up every morning at 3:30am by liking my face incessantly! He had move this back to 5:30am (somewhat better), but is now back at 3:30am...and again at 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30, give or take. Sometimes when I finally get out of bed, he makes sure I'm following him and runs to the kitchen and starts eating. I go back to bed. Sometimes its just about the licking. I need to get some sleep!!! Thanks.

I change my rabbits litter every week if not every week and a half (corn cobble). This summer it seems like the fruit flies are using it as a breeding ground. Its really gross. Is there anything I can put in the cobble that will either kill the fruit flies from breeding or deter them from breeding there in the first place?

My cat is about 5 years old. she is black, and very playful, but is an indoor cat.

since late 2005, she has had excessive shedding. we have taken her to the vet and asked about the issue, but our vet said nothing was wrong.

but, she has now developed a small bald spot since 3 weeks ago, that is the size of a dime. we looked up this problem on the computer, and i have leveled it down to two possibilites- parasites, or a hormonal imbalance.

has this ever happened to anyone's cat?

She is 4 years old, we adopted her from a litter. When she was 2 she stole my dogs old bed and started making a circular kneeding motion around the bed like how a pizza maker would spread out the dough. We got rid of that bed as it got yicky and about three months ago she stole one of the couch cushions and started to kneed that. She gets a dazed look in her eyes. Then after about 5 minutes of kneeding she will lay down on or next to the pillow and go to sleep. Why does she do this and is she aware of how stupid she looks?
