Its sounds like conjunctivitis(i know wierd word). When I first got my cat, 9 years ago, she had it. Most kittens get it. You can get meds for her/him at a pharmacy or vet. It is just special eye drops.
Don't worry, you don't have to take her/him to the vet, unless you really want to. Good luck, I know how you feel, but she/he will be fine.

Be a responsible pet owner and make an appointment with a good Vet. Tell the VEt what colour the discharge is [green/brown or clear] .Don't look at it as costing you, look at it as an investment with a huge return to add to the quality of you life.
It could be dust or chemicels in the air have irritated the eyes. This is very painful same as if it happens to you. The kitten needs the eyes wiped with cooled boiled water for comfort and hygiene. Needs medicience from VEt stop swelling.
This is most likely a virus. The Mother could have passed it to kitten. With stress and/or being separated from the Mom the kitten imune system took a dive. Don't risk damage or making this a coronic conditon TAKE TO THE VETS please.

If you can not afford to take your kitty to the emergency room and you need to wait until Monday to see your vet then this is what you do...put a very, very small amount of neosporin in the hurt eye...also have your kitten lick a small amount of neosporin off your finger...you can do this up to 3 times a day until you can take it to your vet first thing Monday morning. Be sure to wash your hands before and after applying the neosporin.

If your cat is cooperative - use a damp, warm washcloth to clean the goop out. You can use the washcloth to keep on the eye - makes it feel a little better. Keep a watch on the eye - if it doesn't get worse - call the vet Monday morning. I don't think it would be a rush unless you notice infection.

It might've got ambushed, or hurt in a fight. Take it to your vet, right now!
*Please note that the honeysuckle that is indigenous to Texas WILL
KILL YOUR
CATS!!! It is TOXIC and POISONOUS!!! *
Honeysuckle grown elsewhere (the best honeysuckle is grown in British
Colombia (BC) Canada) can be safe. It gives cats the same types of
reactions as catnip does. My cats have all had CANADIAN honeysuckle
toys
for a decade and they love them.
Also note that honeysuckle does not calm cats who are excited by it
just
like most cats are excited by catnip. There is a better than even
chance
that honeysuckle will excite the cat and render it hyper and wild just
as
catnip does.
*Please do NOT send around information on honeysuckle without the
warning
that Texas honeysuckle is toxic. Well-meaning people will try to feed
their
cats Texas honeysuckle and will kill their cats. *

as first aid you can use chamomile tea. Just boil it in wather, let it cool a litle - to be on room temperature and then was her eye with it. It should help and if doesnt can't do anything bad. I use that on my cat when he got red eye.

Please take your kitten to a vet as soon as possible. I would consider this an emergency. Sounds like an injury, but could possibly something else.
