When he finishes eating, he soils his dish, as in uses it as a bathroom. Is he sick? Is it a territorial thing? It's annoying and disgusting. I'm not familiar with this behavior. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not too familiar with hedgehogs, but I found that my rats and mice would always urinate and defecate in their food dish. Small animals often like to go in one spot, perhaps he has chosen that as his spot. My suggestion would be to give him a litter box. He might be wanting to use one, but his food dish is the only thing he has. If he doesn't use a litter box, just put his food where he sleeps, making sure it isn't on top of urine or feces, as that would be cleaner than letting him pee on it, and much less work for you. Good luck!
