Though chocolate IS toxic to dogs, it is rare that they actually die from it. First of all, the milk chocolate found in most chocolate treats is only toxic enough to make the dog ill, but he won't die from it unless he ingested a LOT of it, I'm talking like more than two whole easter bunnies, generally, hehe.
The more serious chocolates are the baker's chocolate and dark chocolate, which contain more of the substance in chocolate that dogs react to.
The only way you can really test to see why your dog died is if the vet does an autopsy. If your dog was already in poor health and on steroids, it's more likely that your dog died of whatever it was on steroids for. But I'm sure there is a test for chocolate toxicity, and if you like, your vet can perform it. Kind of pointless though, it won't bring your dog back =(

Not unless you ask them to. You can request that a necropsy be performed and the vet can tell you if any organs are abnormal. They can then give you the option of sending off samples for testing. It will cost $$$$ though.

Not unless you tell him your dog was eating chocolate.
Hopefully you have learned that chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs, and if the poor thing was already sick, those toxins may have finished him off. :-(
Sorry sweetie. :-(

Well if you think that you killed your dog with chocolate you should just tell the vet, otherwise- why do you care?

They will if you pay them to..but it is very expensive... They would send blood out to be tested by an independent laboratory.
A few M&Ms killed my pug..it caused seizures, which caused a heart attack.
