I have two heat pumps, one in the attic and one in the basement. Last night my power went out, when it came back on the one in the attic wouldn't come back on. It's cold here, and I need both in order to heat my house. I just bought it this year about 8 months ago. Will my homeowner's insurance cover the system going out?

I left for work really early before the sun came up to go to work. It was snowing like crazy. My driveway was about 8 inches deep in snow with drifts starting to build up.
Finally around 10 PM at nite the wind broke and the snow stopped. When I got back home, I discovered my driveway was plowed. I think the city guy did it while I was gone. Should I ask and give him $10 bucks? Do you think he will do it again each time the snow blows if I pay him? I am not able to scoop out my drive and have no one else to do it.

Why are British Gas quoting me nearly £4000 (inc vat)to replace my combi boiler in a like for like situation?
No additional pipe work or extra bits are needed.
The core charge for the boiler itself is £650 (ex vat) more expensive than the average internet price and comes to about £1350 from British Gas(ex vat).
With the timer / stat and flue the 'internet' total (inc vat and delivery) is £1030 as opposed to British Gas price of £1850!
Any help as where to go from here?
Thanks

I checked my icicle lights and they all worked. When I hung them on the house (I plugged in 3 strands like the box said I could) the end of each strand was not lit. Only a partial of each strand was burned out. How can fix or what am I doing wrong? My house looks like crap!

Anything I wash in my washer that has white on it is turning brown. It is a smaller trailer and no room to put a unit inside. Is there any units that can be used under the trailer. Or one that is small enough to fit in a closet. Or anything I can add to my laundry load to prevent the staining. I am desperate as it looks like we will be staying here for a long time.

Our home is only 12 years old and I have noticed that a few of the bedrooms are cold and drafty while others are not. In the summer, the same rooms that are cold in winter, are hotter than others even with the air conditioner on. What is the problem and how can I fix it?

Any suggestions? I can't really go outside and use the hairdryer on the line(my dad's suggestion), b/c I can't leave my 2 yr old in the house alone, which is sick with ear infections. What can I do from inside the house?

How do we approach the situation without getting electricuted?

I have an oil fired steam furnace. The furnace seems to have its own temperature control now. The thermostat sets to 62 degrees, but the furnace has been maintaining 84 degrees. I know it's not the thermostat because I removed it from the wall and the same thing happens. Anyone have an idea on what's going on?

I've got a window-unit air conditioner running in my room, and really like to have the room cold at all times ( I drop it down to 65-67 at night) because the rest of the house is roasting, and I sleep MUCH better when it is cold. I'm in eastern Texas, and it usually does not drop a couple degrees lower than 32 at night.

I know that a lot of people take the aircon out during winter, but that is not an option, and I would highly prefer to be able to run it, rather than letting it sit immobilized. I recognize it is recommended not to keep it on, but our winters here are very light, so I am curious.

Can I safely do it? Sort of desperate, because there is no other way to cool the room anywhere near 67, and it gets too toasty to sleep comfortably.

Alternatively, I can set it to run on FAN, which circulates air and doesn't cool. Is that safer than running it on COOL? I'd rather it on cool, if possible. Help, please :)

I just bought a place, and I have been getting conflicting opinions, from the insurance company specifying that I have to keep it "clear", to the man who did the pre-purchase home inspection saying to leave a couple inches accumulation. Just need a good rule of thumb. I have a roof rake.

I am just wondering if it will clog anything.. I don't really care that the necklace is lost because it wasn't very expensive but I just don't want the necklace to mess up anything. I REALLY don't want to open all the pipes and stuff either, messy job. Notice that this is the whole necklace, it was just a silver chain with a cross..

So is there any harm in leaving the necklace in the drain?

We just recently bought a 90 yr old home. The rooms in the upper floors shake when sanitation or delivery trucks go by and it is disconcerting. We are not sure if we should just chalk it up to the character of the house or call a contractor to check out the foundation. We are also a 15 min walk away from the beach, do water tables play a part in the stability of the home?

Okay so I recently moved and I need a clothes dryer. The problem is that I have purchased 3 so far from good friends and family! All said that the dryers worked great before I got the. The trouble is that after I plug them in they seem to work great until I actually plaug them in... then they do not heat up!! They spin and seem to everything else right. I searched online and found that it could be a fuse or trouble with your circuit breaker. I checked our breaker and we don't use fuses and all circuits seem to be turned on! I am not sure what to do!! All the dryers can't have the same trouble... it's gotta be the power sourse! I also changed the cord in the back from 4 prong to 3 prong so it fits in the outlet!! What am I doing wrong?!!! Help!!

My hot water heater light began to go out recently. I re-lit the light and over the past few weeks has been doing it more often, until today it went out 3 times. I was going to buy a new water heater but my buddy said that perhaps the problem was the pilot light flow? (Something to that nature) He said that the flow could be screwed up and perhaps just get a new fitting for the pilot light? Anyone have any experience with this? If I dont need a new heater, why get one? How can I tell? The water heater is 9 years old, natural gas.

Thanks alot!
