I left for work really early before the sun came up to go to work. It was snowing like crazy. My driveway was about 8 inches deep in snow with drifts starting to build up.
Finally around 10 PM at nite the wind broke and the snow stopped. When I got back home, I discovered my driveway was plowed. I think the city guy did it while I was gone. Should I ask and give him $10 bucks? Do you think he will do it again each time the snow blows if I pay him? I am not able to scoop out my drive and have no one else to do it.

We live in way rural America. The only thing around here is 5 extremely large grain bins, a dinky little mom and pop store and a post office. Population of our local town is around 650.
I am so appreciative. When it snows here, the mass of drifts is way beyond anything I could move with my shovel. No one here is vain enough to file a lawsuit against the heavy equipment operators. The farmers all plow everyone and all the county people plow. I am extremely thankfkul and so are the neighbors. We live amongst country folks and we all take care of each other.

Oh yeah, I am certain I make way more $$$ than the maintenance man who plows.

Happy, could be your secret admirer, just keeping an eye on you. Give him the money if he wants it! I give 10 or 20 $$ to our garbage driver! Take care! Jimmy.

You should establish a fund that recognises that not every driveway cleared is without grievences. What was a godsend to you may of been a disaster for someone else. My city tried this 'extra attention' only to have this consideration back-fire. The number of 'private property' claims of destruction quadrupled within days of this 16+in. snow event. My city became nearlly bankrupt in all winter opperations as a result of these insane accusations.

In our city the employees are not allowed to accept cash gratuities, so maybe call and ask the personnel department to determine whether yours is the same. I give my city employees a little container filled with homebaked goodies and they always appreciate that they were remembered for the extra mile they go and always seem to do it as a result.
