I have two heat pumps, one in the attic and one in the basement. Last night my power went out, when it came back on the one in the attic wouldn't come back on. It's cold here, and I need both in order to heat my house. I just bought it this year about 8 months ago. Will my homeowner's insurance cover the system going out?

Keep in mind your deductable. It will be at least $500 and very likely $1000. Plus your rates will probably go up after making a claim. If you can prove that a power surge ruined the heat pump your ins probably would cover it, but like others have said it should have a years warranty. However i wouldn't mention your power outage to them.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the breakdown of anything. If your roof gets old, it wont cover that, if your air conditioner or fridge breaks, it wont cover that, etc. A home warranty policy would cover that kind of stuff. Homeowners insurance covers damage- such as a fire, wind damage, etc. As others have mentioned, at only 8 months old, I would call the person who installed it and see if I could get it covered under warranty. If they are no help, then call the manufacturer and see what they will do for you directly.

I don't think your insurance will cover it, but, if it is only 8 months old, shouldn't it still be under warranty?

I would recommend one to try this web page where you can get rates from the best companies: http://insurecheap.us/index.html?src=5YAhih52VaKMtd1
