A tree branch broke through our roof the other day. Our bedroom now has bits of insulation, drywall, shingles, and glass on the floor and bed and stuff. After picking up the larger pieces, can I use a regular vacuum to clean up the particles, or would this damage the vacuum? Would a shop-vac (which we'd have to go buy) be better?

I moved into this condo for 3 months and I realized a part of the wall in the master bathroom has a leak. It's near the corner of the bathtub. I suspect it's the pipes leaking behind the wall. The contractors said it's the water escaping from the shower curtain. I am still not convinced because I didn't turn the shower on for days and then the wall dried up. I turned it on and let it run on it's own and I saw water coming out of the wall. The contractor said it's pressured copper pipes and it's impossible for it to leak. If it did, the whole wall would fall off.

Just recently I am having problems with the capacitor start, alternating current electric motor that runs one of the tools in my workshop. When I turn the power switch "On" the motor will "hum" but won't turn. If I spin the shaft manually, the motor will then start running normally. Is the "starting capacitor" the problem?

My digital thermometer is not registering my room temperature below 80 degrees and my A/C keeps running non-stop.

I have changed the batteries, checked the filter, and reset the thermostat and nothing. nada. zilch! I have had no choice but to shut the unit because I can't have it running continually nor do I want a zillion dollar electric bill.

I am thinking that the thermostat may not be working right - I can't imagine how my house is hotter than it is outside. Somethings not right and I am tearing my hair out!

Thanks in advance for your help.

We recently tore down very old paneling we had up in the living room....only to find globs of dark brown glue all over the walls....I've been told it's mirrors glue...and I've been told it's industrial glue....I have no clue which one it is......however it definately was strong, as when we tore down the paneling chunks of my walls came with it in areas where the glue was.....so my question is....how in the world do I get this glue off so I can redo my walls....they look awful.....any suggestions????

I have one of those stoves where the elements are covered with a flat surface which is made of ceramic (I think) and there are stains that just won't go away, even though they look like burn marks they are not, the stove is practically brand new. We were told that this was not a problem anymore with this kind of stove top. We tried everything, including a ceramic cleaner to no avail. Anyone know what to do?

well, kinda embarassing to ask the q...I had bowel movement this morning which left my toilet completely clogged....water would not come down any inch and that left me no room for plunging...I did manage to drain the excessive water out and worked with my plunger, but nothing happened. I saw on the web that some people did have good experience with hot water and dishwash soap, I wonder will that also be the case in my situation? Or, I have to try methods (excluding those required removal of the toilet itself!!)

My domestic water heater is in the garage. One 3/4 inch water line exits the water heater and almost immediately a 3/4 inch tee diverts water to the clothes washer 20 feet away. The main line continues straight ahead 25 feet and again tee's with one 3/4 line going left to serve the kitchen area 20 feet away and the other 3/4 inch line turning right and serving the bathrooms which are now 50 feet away. The problem is whenever anyone is in the shower and a faucet is opened upstream the person in the shower is robbed of hot water. Any suggestions for a remedy would be greatly appreciated.
