...also.. the vent is not reachable by the cat, so thats been ruled out.. a rat?? ewe I certainly hope not.. we think the mice are in the chimney..and they come down to the cold air vent where the trap is set.. just so weird that over night the body disappeared. I stuck the vacuum tube in numerous feet, nothing was sucked up..

Yes, mice and rats will eat a dead mouse.
Your mouse may have been a baby rat, I've caught what I thought were mice and realized later they were baby rats.
So...you have a chimney full of cannibalistic rodents? Let's hope they don't move on to larger prey!!
Best wishes!

I found a dead mouse in the trap, this morning. The head was gone and so also the insides of the mouse. Just the skin was left. Never knew about this. The mice here are very active right now. I usually trap about 19 per week. My house is in the woods and I feed the birds. Not a good combination.!!

I was just getting ready to post this very same question when I saw your similar question. The same thing happened to me a few days ago. I caught a common mouse by his hind legs in the trap, so I had to kill it by hand. I left it overnight because I didn't want to deal with it. By the afternoon on the following day, the mouse was gone. There is no other explanation but other mice dragged him off and ate him! This all happened in my garage where there are no other animals but mice... and yes, I am sure he was dead. I guess we can only conclude that mice eat other dead mice. I just hope his dead body (wherever it is) doesn't stink up my garage!

well two things 1 when the trap deployed it cut off the head and the mouse was still able to run like the old saying like a chicken with his head cut off or 2 mice are not into the family thing food is food and it was taken away

Yes -- I used to raise mice and when one died the others would eat it down to a carcass. I guess it's a way to re-harvest the energy...

Glue traps are the best method to trap rats and mice.
