My water has been checked for iron and it was normal and the hot water outlet pipe looks fine as I installed both lines at the same time when I put in the heater.

House is in Oceanside, no basement. I looked in the coat closet and walk-in closet. I didn't notice it in the garage but some of the shelves have stuff on them.

For the last month I have heard this loud scratching and thought it was outside because we have raccoons around my house. But when I got up today and opened the cabinet where the dog food is, the food had been ripped apart and there were big rat droppings all over!! UGH!! I just moved in this house and am renting. What can be done? Will me or my dog get sick? I know the landlord needs to tend to it but I doubt an exterminator can come because of the holiday weekend. Please any ideas on starting to get rid of them or at least keeping them out for now??? UGH--HELP!!!

The contractor who inspected says my whole roof needs replacement or second layer of roof required. The roof is not done right by the builder and shingles are worn out. How is it possible? Roof should last for 20 to 25 years. Do I need to check with the builder?

The previous owners removed the tub and cut the pipe flush with the floor. Today, I discovered that the chrome pipe goes about 2 inches into the floor then stops. It is inside what appears to be a black plastic pipe. The floor is concrete. Can I just chisel around this, and do you think I can pull the chrome piece out? If I do, then my drain pipe will just fit inside this black pipe. Also how do I connect the tub drain pipe to this pipe. Any suggestions?

When you reglaze the tile in your shower or tub, do you glaze right over the grout? Also, how well does this hold up/resist scratching?

My house is old and I need to replace a shutoff valve for the cold water intake to the bathtub. I've been reading on line about how to do this but can't find my answer. Here's the question- Do I need to use teflon tape or pipe compound to replace a shutoff valve? The pipe and valve are both metal. I also need to know if there is an easy way to remove the old valve? I haven't tried yet but it looks like it has been glued in or something. Any help or sugestions would be very apreciated. Thanks, Patty

two apartment house -one oil fired hot water peerless boiler. When heating hot water circulating pumps do not run for heat. Is this correct? We took hot water off priority but still heats first before heat.
Also we have run out of hot water (4 girls using) and it takes forever for turnaround time to heat water. In the meantime temperature in house gets colder as heat does not kick in until tank is full of hot water. Any suggestions?

I have a wooden coffee table and the screws keep becoming loose after I tighten them. Would buying all new screws for the whole thing fix the problem? The coffee table is only about 4 or 5 years old and I don't have the same problem with the end tables. Any advice is welcomed.

We just bought a house that is about 55 years old. The machine that came with the house was left here by previous owners. The machine shakes several rooms in the house when it runs (ie lots of vibrations). Can this damage our house in the long run? If so, how?

Thanks.

I have been shopping at Home Depot for a very long time, but lately it seems that Home Depot has gotten really customer unfriendly. I have fixed up a condo I had w/ Home Depot and I had a few problems, but they were mostly fixed promptly. Now that I bought a house and are fixing that up also (and I mean everything…. The whole house was gutted… including the floors and some walls) I have been having nothing but problems w/ Home Depot. I purchased two toilets (the nice ones) and one was put in one of the bathrooms, b/c we needed at least one toilet. The other bathroom was being worked on, and so the other toilet was sitting in a box till that happened. We put up the toilet finally and it turned out that the bowl was cracked on the side… it was a tiny crack so it took us a few days to notice. I didn’t want to replace the whole toilet so we took off the bowl only and went to the store to get a replacement.
First, it turned out that even though we bought the toilet from the store floor, it was some sort of a special order thing, so they didn’t feel like ordering another one, unless I paid the full price of like a $150, even though it was their bowl that was cracked and I didn’t want money or to replace the whole thing, I just wanted a bowl. Then the lady got a big attitude w/ me (after treating me like dirt in the first place) and sent me to see the manager.
The manager basically thought that I was trying to swindle Home depot out of the toilet bowl money… even though I kept explaining to him that I just want the bowl, not the money for the bowl…. I just want my toilet to work. I told him that if he wants to, he can give me another bowl that fits this toilet. He just got angry and said that there is no other bowl that fits that toilet. I called my husband, who said that he’s about to uninstall that whole toilet, bring it to the store and put it in the middle of Home Depot and leave it there. He told me to just leave everything there and go to Lowes.
Finally, some store employee, I guess overheard the conversation, and was nice enough to say that there is a bowl that fits that toilet. I ended up having to BUY the bowl off the floor. Brought it home and guess what????? This one had cracks on the bottom. I was sooooooooo mad. There was no way that I was going to go to Home Depot again to buy another bowl. Since the cracks were on the bottom, we filled in the entire bottom with resin and it worked, but of course that is not the issue. All of this toilet bowl madness took over two hours. Not to mention having to drive back and forth.
This is just one of probably about 15 nasty Home Depot stories I have. We started going to Lowes as much as possible, even though it’s further then Home Depot. Of course sometimes we just don’t have the time and end up going to Home Depot anyway. Is this the reason Home Depot started getting so nasty and simply doesn’t care? Is it because they know that people basically have to come back from time to time?

I just want to make sure I am doing this right.

I have just bought for $3 a 20 amp male plug. (I hope that is the right term). Its the part that will plug into the outlet. The plug has three prongs.
One prong is the U shaped one, which I assume is ground, and has a greenish screw on the inside.
One prong is flat and has a silver coloured screw on inside.
Last prong is also flat (but at right angles to the other flat prong) and has a brass coloured screw on the inside.

The wire coming into this plug has green, white and black.

So I assume that the green wire goes the green screw (U shaped prong). This is the ground?
I assume that white wire goes to the silver screw.
I assume the black wiire goes to the brass screw.

Does this sound ok?
